What's New -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Version FINAL (8/27/04): The very last version of this FAQ. Version 1.0 (8/31/01): The first, complete version of this FAQ. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 2. Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This is the mega-popular NES game that started a series of great adventure games spanning across all the Nintendo systems (with the exception of the Virtual Boy). The first in the series was just excellent; it was simple and challenging at the same time, which is good. Anyway, there are 8 pieces of the Triforce that you must find in each of the 8 dungeons of the game. However, you get many weapons/items to help you along the way. At the end, you have a showdown with Ganon in the final dungeon. I'm not going to give it all away here, but for those who are true fans of the series MUST play this game! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Story -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= A long, long time ago the World was in an age of Chaos. In the middle of this chaos, in a little kingdom in the land of Hyrule, a legend was being banded down from generation to generation, the legend of the "Triforce"; golden triangles possessing mystical powers. One day, an evil army attacked this peaceful little kingdom and stole the Triforce of Power. This army was lead by Gannon, the powerful Prince of Darkness who sought to plunge the World into fear and darkness under his rule. Fearing his wicked rule, Zelda, the princess of this kingdom, split up the Triforce of Wisdom into eight fragments and hid them throughout the realm to save the last remaining Triforce from the clutches of the evil Gannon. At the same time, she commanded her most trustworthy nursemaid, Impa, to secretly escape into the land and go find a man with enough courage to destroy the evil Gannon. Upon hearing this, Gannon grew angry, imprisoned the princess, and sent out a party in search of Impa. Braving forests and mountains, Impa fled for her life from her pursuers. As she reached the very limit of her energy she found herself surrounded by Gannon's evil henchmen. Cornered! What could she do? ...But wait! All was not lost. A young lad appeared. He skillfully drove off Gannon's henchmen, and saved Impa from a fate worse than death. His name was Link. During his travels he had come across Impa and Gannon's henchmen. Impa told Link the whole story of the princess Zelda and the evil Gannon. Burning with a sense of justice, Link resolved to save Zelda, but Gannon was a powerful opponent. He held the Triforce of Power. And so, in order to fight off Gannon, Link had to bring the scattered eight fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom together to rebuild the mystical Triangle. If he couldn't do this, there would be no chance Link could fight his way into Death Mountain where Gannon lived. Can Link really destroy Gannon and save the princess Zelda? Only your skill can answer that question. Good luck. Use the Triforce wisely. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 4. There are 3 rupees in front of you, and you have to pick one of them. You can either win or lose money here, so it's all a matter of luck. It helps to try this when you're in need of some cash and you're feeling a bit lucky. See the above locations list for information on where Gambling caves are in the overworld. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 6. First Quest Walkthrough -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Overworld --------- When you start the game, head into the cave nearby and take the Wooden Sword. Then, exit the cave and head east 1 screen, then north 4 screens, while defeating the Octoroks and Leevers along the way for some quick rupees. Head west across the bridge to the next screen, then enter Dungeon 1, the Eagle. Dungeon 1 (Eagle) ----------------- When you enter this first dungeon, head into the east room first. Defeat the Stalfos enemies, especially the one carrying the Key. Go back to the first room, then enter the west room. Defeat the 3 Keese here and take the Key that appears. Go back to the first room and unlock the north door, then enter that room. Here, defeat the 3 Stalfos and continue to the following room. In this room, beat some more Stalfos and grab the Key that appears, then head east to the next room. Get through all the Keese and take the Compass, then go back to the previous room. Keep going west into the following room. Defeat the Keese and unlock the door leading north to the next room. There, defeat the 3 Gels and push the block to open the west door. If you want to see the old man, enter the west room; otherwise, continue east to the next room. Defeat the Gels here and grab the Map, then head north to the next room. Here, beat the 3 Stalfos, particularly the one with the Key, then unlock the door and enter the next room. In this room, defeat the 3 Goriyas and take the Key that appears, then unlock the west door and enter that room. Get to the west side of the room while avoiding the Blade Traps (step into the path of the Blade Traps to activate them, then move past as they retract). Push the west block out of the way and go down the stairs, then claim the Bow. Go back upstairs and head east 1 room, then south 2 rooms. When you're back in the room with the locked door to the east, unlock it and enter that room. Defeat the 3 Goriyas and claim the Wooden Boomerang, then continue east to the next room. Get the Key in the room while defeating or avoiding the Wallmasters that come out (try not to get grabbed or you'll be sent to the dungeon entrance). Unlock the north door and enter the boss room. Read the Bosses section if you need help (which I HIGHLY doubt you will) beating Aquamentus, which is this dragon boss. After you win, take the Heart Container and enter the last room to claim the Triforce piece. You'll then be brought back outside again. Overworld --------- Back outside, head east across the bridge to the next screen. There are a few things you should do before heading to the second dungeon. Start by heading all the way south, defeating the enemies along the way to get some rupees. At the southmost point, head all the way east to the bottom-right corner of the overworld. Defeat the Octoroks, Tektites (hopping spider-like enemies), and Leevers along the way to get a good amount of rupees. At the eastmost point, head north 1 screen and enter the cave, which is a shop. Buy some Bombs for 20 rupees, then head west 2 screens. Then, head north 1 screen and east 1 screen to another shop. Buy a Blue Candle at this point (if you don't have 60 rupees, go fight some enemies and come back to get it). After that, head west 1 screen and continue north for 2 more screens, defeating the Moblins along the way. In the area with the 2 Armos Knights in the middle, awaken and defeat the right one and go down the stairs to a hidden room. A Moblin will secretly give you 30 rupees there. Leave there and continue north 2 screens and east 1 screen. Go north and enter the cave to get the Letter from the old man there. Now, go back south 1 screen, west 1 screen, then south 1 more screen. From there, head west to the next screen and bomb the right side of the rock formation in the middle of the area to reveal a cave. Enter it and claim the Heart Container inside (don't take the Water of Life; you can buy some later if you want it so badly). After that, head north up the steps to the next screen. Then, go west 2 screens and north 1 screen. Go around the pond, being careful of the tough red Lynel enemy around the path. Enter the cave and take the White Sword since you have 5 Heart Containers at this point. Now, exit this cave and go back around and south to the previous screen. Then, head west as far as you can go while avoiding the falling boulders along the way. Head south 1 screen and east 6 screens, defeating the Peahats, Octoroks, and Leevers you encounter along the way. Then, head south 2 screens and west 1 screen. Defeat the enemies there, then go north up the blue steps to the next area, where you'll find Dungeon 2, the Moon. Dungeon 2 (Moon) ---------------- In this dungeon, head east into the next room and defeat the Ropes you see there. Take the Key that appears and go back to the previous room. Now, head north to the next room, and defeat the Ropes there as well. Go through the door to the left that opens into the next room. Beat some more Ropes and take the Key, then head east 2 rooms. Defeat 3 more Ropes in this room, then unlock the east door and into the following room. Defeat the Gels here and take the Compass in the upper-right corner of the room. Go back to the previous room, then head north to the next room this time. Here, defeat the Goriyas and unlock the east door, then enter that room. Take the Map and go back to the previous room, then head north to the next room. In this room, defeat the Ropes and take the Key that appears, then go east into that room. Here, defeat the 3 blue Goriyas while avoiding the fireballs shot by the statues in the corners, then claim the Metal Boomerang to replace your wooden one. Now, go back west to the previous room, and then head north to the following room. Defeat the 2 Moldorms and take the Key that appears, then go east into the next room. Here, watch out for the Blade Traps and defeat the Gels, then take the Bombs in the middle of the room. Go back to the previous room and head north another room. In this room, defeat all the Ropes, then unlock the east door and enter that room. Defeat the Gels and take the 5 rupees that appear, then go back to the previous room (unless you want to see the Old Man, which in that case you'll go into the north room). Then, continue north to the following room. Defeat the Goriyas and take the Bombs that appear in the corner of the room, then continue to the next room where you'll fight the Dodongo bosses. Read the Bosses section for help on winning here. After that, head west to the final room and take the Triforce piece, clearing this level! Overworld --------- Back in the overworld, head south 1 screen and east 1 screen. Go south another screen, then head ALL THE WAY west until you can't go any further (you should be on a screen with a dock at that point). From there, head south 1 screen and go across the bridge, and continue west to the next screen. Continue west 1 screen and south another screen. Then, go east 1 screen and enter Dungeon 3, the Manji. Dungeon 3 (Manji) ----------------- When you enter this dungeon, go west into the next room. Here, defeat the Zols and continue north to the following room. Defeat some more Zols and take the Key that appears, then keep going to the next room. In this room, defeat the red Darknuts and take the Bombs that appear after you beat them all. Then, head west into the next room. Here, quickly go left to avoid the Blade Traps, then defeat the Keese and collect the Compass in the middle of the room. Then, avoid the Blade Traps along the west side of the room and unlock the door, and enter that room. Defeat the Darknuts to open the south door, then continue into the next room. Here, get around the Darknuts and defeat them with the help of some Bombs, then collect the bunch of Bombs that appear after you beat them. Go down the stairs and take the Raft, then go back upstairs and head north to the previous room. In this next room, continue north into the room you didn't yet explore. In this room, watch out for the flashing Bubbles since you won't be able to use your sword for a few moments if one touches you. Defeat the Keese and Zols here, then take the Key and go east to the next room. Continue east through the narrow path and defeat the Keese along the way. Collect the Bombs that appear after you beat all the Keese, then unlock the east door and enter that room. In this room, defeat the Zols and take the Key, then unlock the north door and go into that room. Here, avoid the Blade Traps and defeat the Zols, then push the left block to open the north door. Avoid the traps and continue into that room. Read the Old Man's advice, then continue to the following room. Take the Key in the room and defeat all the Keese to unlock the door. Now, go back east 1 room and south 2 rooms. From here, unlock the east door with a Key and enter the next room. Avoid the Blade Traps here and defeat the Zols, then take the Map and head south to the next room. In this room, defeat the 3 Darknuts wandering around, then go through the now open east door into the next room. Defeat the Keese and Zols in this room while avoiding the flashing Bubbles. Collect the 5 rupees that appear in the upper-left corner, then enter the north room to meet the boss. Read the Bosses section for help on beating Manhandla. After you win, take the Heart Container and head to the next room to claim the Triforce piece. You'll then be back outside once again. Overworld --------- Back outside, head west 3 screens and defeat the enemies along the way for some rupees. Then, head north 1 screen into the Lost Woods. Head north, west, south, and west to get through it. Then in the next area, head north to the next screen and defeat the Lynels you encounter. Continue north 2 more screens through the cemetery, then head east 3 screens. Go north on the right ladder to the next screen, and head east to the following screen with the Armos Knights. Defeat the Armos in the upper-right corner and take the Power Bracelet that was underneath it. Now you're able to push the rocks and enter the Underground Passageways! Now, head west 1 screen, south 1 screen, west 1 screen, then north the left ladder. Defeat the Lynels and push the left rock aside, then enter the Underground Passageway. Take the middle stairs to come out in the passageway to the east of where you start the game. Now it's time to get over 250 rupees so you can afford the Blue Ring (if you haven't already). Defeat the blue Tektites here and in the screen to the east, then continue to the following screen with the Leevers. Bomb the left wall to reveal a cave, then take the Heart Container inside, which will give you a total of 8 Heart Containers. Now, continue east until you can't go any further, then head north several screens until you reach the dock. Use the Raft to go across to another area, then enter the cave and take the Heart Container in there, giving you 9 total. Leave here and go back to the previous screen via raft. Then, head west 1 screen, north 1 screen, and west 1 screen. If you don't yet have 250 rupees at least, continue north and east to P7 and play the Gambling game until you do. If you do, head north up the steps and push the rock to open an Underground Passageway. Take the right stairs to end up in the screen with the blue Tektites. Now, head 3 screens west, 1 screen north, 2 screens west, then north as far as you can go. If you followed those directions correctly, you'll be in an area with a group of Armos Knights. Defeat the middle one in the top row, then go down the steps into the shop and buy the Blue Ring for 250 rupees. Now with added protection from attacks, leave the shop and backtrack to the area with the blue Tektites by the Underground Passageway. Defeat them and the ones in the screen to the east. Then, make your way east 2 screens more (the screen directly east of where you bombed the wall and found the Heart Container). Bomb the north wall near the middle to reveal another cave. Enter it and play the Gambling game. Keep leaving/reentering and winning, then after you have 90 rupees, leave there. Head all the way west through 4 screens, then north 3. You should be in the area with the Leevers and a path heading west. Take the path west 1 screen. Burn the 5th bush from the right with the Blue Candle to reveal some stairs. Go down them and claim your 10th Heart Container. Now, head west 1 screen and burn the bush at the corner. Enter the shop and buy the Large Shield for 90 rupees. Now that you have some new stuff, as well as more health, head south 1 screen and west 1 screen. Walk on the dock and you'll automatically use the Raft to drift to the next area. Here, enter the cave which is Dungeon 4, the Snake. Dungeon 4 (Snake) ----------------- In this dungeon, start by heading west into the next room. Defeat all of the Keese and take the Key, then go back to the first room. Head north to the following room and defeat the Vires and Keese here. After that, head east into the next room. Use the Blue Candle to light the room, then defeat the Vires and take the Compass. Head back to the previous room, and head north to the next room. In this room, defeat the Keese and take the Key, then go west to the following room. Light up the room and defeat the Vires here, then continue north to another room. Light this room up as well, then defeat the Zols and continue to the next room. Use a Candle to light this room up, then defeat the Vire on this side of the gap. Avoid the Bubbles and unlock the east door, then enter that room. Here, defeat the Vires to open the east door. Enter that room and defeat the Zols, along with the Like Likes (if they swallow you, you may lose your Large Shield, so be VERY careful). Push the left block and go down the stairs to get the Ladder. You can now cross those gaps and narrow streams of water with this useful item! Now, head back upstairs and west to the previous room. Use the Ladder and quickly cross halfway through the room, then unlock the north door and enter that room. Defeat the 3 Gels there, then leave this room. Continue west to the following room, then light the room up and go across the stream and unlock the north door. Continue into the next room, then in that room, defeat all the Vires hopping around. Go east into the next room, then light up the room and defeat the last 2 Gels. Take the Map at the other side of the room, then go back to the previous room. Here, go north into the next room and defeat the Manhandla here just as you did with it in the previous dungeon. After you beat it, bomb the right wall and enter the hidden room on the map. Take the 10 rupees here, then go back to the previous room. From there, continue north to the next room to hear the Old Man's advice, then keep going right to another room. Here, light up the room and use the Ladder to get through here while defeating the Keese along the way. Take the Key and continue to the following room. As soon as you enter this room, trigger the Blade Traps and go back to the doorway where they won't hit you. As they retract, light up the room and get out of the trap's way. Head south into the next room and defeat the Vires there, then push the left block to open the east door. Continue into the next room where you'll fight the Gleeok boss; read the Bosses section for help here. After the fight, take the Heart Container, go to the next room, and take the Triforce piece to complete this dungeon. Overworld --------- Back outside, head south and to the previous area. Then, continue south 1 screen, east 1, then south another to the bottom row of the overworld. Now, head east all the way to the end, defeating all the enemies and collecting the rupees along the way. When you reach the bottom-right corner of the map, head north 1 screen and enter the shop. Buy Arrows for 80 rupees (if you don't have the money, go fight enemies and come back for the Arrows). After that, continue north to another screen and you'll see a Heart Container on a ledge surrounded by water. Use the Ladder and go across the 2 platforms to claim the container, giving you 12 total containers. Now, continue north 2 more screens, west 1 screen, north 1 screen, then west for 1 more screen. Head up the blue steps and go west to the next screen. Continue west to the following area, and you will be in the Lost Hills. Go north 5 times to get through here, and you'll end up at the 5th dungeon, the Lizard. Make sure you have Arrows, and at least 100 rupees currently with you; if you don't have 100 rupees, get them by playing a Gambling game or fighting enemies until you do. You'll need them if you want to be able to carry 4 more Bombs. Dungeon 5 (Lizard) ------------------ When you enter this dungeon, head right into the next room. Defeat the Pols Voices with the Bow/Arrows, then take the Key that appears. Go back to the previous room, then head north into the next new room. Light up the room and defeat the Gibdos and take the Key from the one carrying it. Unlock the east door and enter that room to get the Old Man's advice, then go back to the previous room. Cross the stream with the Ladder and continue into the next room. Here, defeat the 3 Dodongos like in previous dungeons (using the trick to stun and kill with your sword really helps). After you beat them, head west into the next room. Cross the room with the Ladder, then defeat the Zols and take the Key that appears. Continue south to the next room, then defeat the Gibdos and take the Bombs that one of them drops. Bomb the left wall to create a hole, then enter that room. Defeat the extremely tough blue Darknuts (if you have Water of Life, it'd help if you get in real danger here). Push the left block out of the way and go through the underground passage to reach another room of the dungeon. In this new room, unlock the west door and enter that room. Defeat all the blue Darknuts here, then push the block to make stairs appear. Go down them and take the Whistle. Go back upstairs and head east to the previous room. Unlock the south door and head into that room, then defeat the Keese and take the Key here. Bomb the right wall and enter the hidden room, then pay 100 rupees to increase the amount of Bombs you can carry to 12 total. Now, go back west 1 room and north 1 room, then push the left block aside and go through the passage to reach the next room. Avoid the blue Darknuts and head east to the next room. Defeat the Gibdos if you want, then bomb the right wall and continue to the following room. Light up this room and defeat the Gibdos, then head north into the next room. Avoid the Dodongos and unlock the north door and enter that room. Go forward and take the Map, then go back to the previous room. Head through the east door into the following room. In this next room, light up the room with a Candle, then defeat the Zols and take the 5-rupee piece that appears. Now, head north to the next room. Here, defeat the Gibdos and take the Key that appears, then continue north to the next room. Light up the room and defeat the 3 red Darknuts, then take the Compass and head north to the following room. In this room, light up the room and defeat the Keese and Gibdos with your sword, and the Pols Voices with the Bow/Arrows. After that, take the Key in the middle of the room and unlock the west door, then enter that room. Defeat the Gibdos and take the Key that appears after you beat them, then continue west into the following room. In this room, use your Bow and Arrows to defeat the Pols Voices here. Then, unlock the door and enter the next room, where you'll fight the boss known as Digdogger. Read the Bosses section for help on winning here. After you win, take the Heart Container and go north into the next room and take the Triforce piece, completing this dungeon! Overworld --------- Back in the overworld, head south 1 screen and west 1 screen. Keep going west for 3 screens, then cross the stream with the Ladder and continue to the following screen. Go west 2 screens and defeat the Lynels and Peahats, then head south 1 screen. Head west 2 screens, south 1, and west 2. At this point, you should be in the cemetery. Go north 1 screen to the upper-right corner of the cemetery, then touch the tombstones and defeat the original Ghini to make all the other ghosts that appear from the tombstones disappear. Now, push the second tombstone from the right in the middle row to reveal stairs. Go down the stairs and claim the Magical Sword in that room, since you should have over 12 Heart Containers by now. Now, head south 1 screen and east 2 screens. Bomb between the 2 sets of stairs to reveal a cave. Enter it and buy the Red Water of Life from the Old Woman (you'll need it sooner or later). Now, go back west 1 screen and defeat the Lynels there. Then, head north 1 screen and enter Dungeon 6, the Dragon (make sure you have Arrows at this point, too). Dungeon 6 (Dragon) ------------------ When you enter this dungeon, go east into the next room. Light up the room and defeat the Wizzrobes, then take the Key and unlock the north door, then enter that room. Listen to the Old Man's advice, then go back south and west 1 room each. Now, unlock the west door and enter that room. Defeat the Wizzrobes here, then continue north into the next room. Defeat the Zols and take the Compass that appears, then head north into the following room. Here, defeat the Keese while avoiding the fireballs being shot by the statues in each corner of the room. Take the Key that appears after you beat the Keese, then go north into the next room. In this room, just walk straight through while avoiding getting caught by the Blade Traps. In the following room, defeat the Wizzrobes and Like Likes while avoiding the Bubble roaming around. Then, push the left block to open the doors, and head north into the next room. Here, defeat the 3 blue Wizzrobes and take the 5 rupees in the corner, then continue to the next room. Defeat the Gleeok and its 3 heads just like you did when you fought it as a boss. After that, continue east into the next room. In this room, defeat the Zols and Like Likes while avoiding the Bubbles, then take the Map that appears. Then, unlock the north door and enter that room. Defeat the Wizzrobes here, then push the left block to make stairs appear. Go down and get the Magic Wand, then go back upstairs and head south to the previous room. Now, cross the stream with the Ladder and enter the east room. Light up this dark room and defeat the Wizzrobes, then take the Key and head east to the next room (the room to the north has nothing worthwhile). Defeat the Wizzrobes and Like Likes, then go north to the following room. Hear the Old Man's advice, then leave this room. Head west 2 rooms and unlock the south door in the room you end up in. Then, go south into the next room. Light up this room and defeat the Wizzrobes, then take the Key in the middle of the room and continue south to the following room. In this dark room, light it up with a Candle, then defeat the Vires bouncing around. Go across the stream and head east into the next room. Defeat some more Wizzrobes and Like Likes, then push the block and go through the passage to reach another room. There, defeat the Like Likes and Zols, then continue south to the next room. Light up this room and defeat the Vires, then take the Key that appears. Now, go west into the next room. Here, get into the room and avoid the Blade Traps, then defeat the Wizzrobes in this room. After that, unlock the north door and enter the room where you'll fight Gohma, the dungeon boss. Read the Bosses section for help on winning. After you win, take the Heart Container and go north to the next room where you'll find the Triforce piece you need. Overworld --------- Outside, head south 1 screen and defeat the Lynels there. Then, head east 1 screen and go up the west stairs to the next screen. Use the Sword to extinguish the flames, then approach Zelda to rescue her and end this game! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 8. Enemies -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Armos Knight Description: This inanimate knight stands totally lifeless until you touch it. If you touch it, it'll come to life and move around. Some move slow and others move fast, so be careful when attacking this enemy. Blade Trap Description: This spiked trap sits in each corner of the room in some rooms of the dungeons. When you come close to any side of the room (i.e. the area between two traps), the Blade Traps against that wall will come together to try and crush you. Step in their path and step back, then as they retract, you should go through the door since it's safe. Bubble Description: This round creature moving around in some dungeons are VERY annoying, especially later in the game. If one touches you, you cannot use your sword for a few moments. There are three types of Bubble: flashing, red, and blue. The flashing one's effects wear off after a few moments, but if you get hit by a red one, you can only use your sword again if you touch a blue Bubble. You can't destroy it, so your best bet is to stay as far away as you can from this creature! Darknut Description: This armored knight with a sword and shield held in front can be pretty tough when encountered in the dungeons. You can only hit it from the sides or back, but be careful since it can quickly turn around and attack you. I recommend dropping Bombs so they explode when a Darknut is near, which is a safe way to kill it. There are two types of Darknuts: red ones and blue ones. The blue ones move much faster and can take many more hits before dying off, so be careful. Gel Description: The tiny gel-like creature found in most dungeons is not a threat to you at all. It moves one tile at a time, so you can quickly kill it with one hit. Ghini Description: This ghost creature inhabits the cemetery in the west area of the overworld. When you touch a tombstone, another Ghini appears, but you can only actually harm the one that was originally there BEFORE touching any stones. Defeat the original one and all the "fakes" will disappear as well. Gibdo Description: This mummy lurks in the dungeons of the game, but isn't too hard to get rid of. It moves and acts just like a Stalfos, except for the fact that it can take more hits. Goriya Description: Here's the boomerang-throwing creature found in some of the game's dungeons. It wanders around, then stops to throw a boomerang straight ahead. Wait until it stops and throws, then attack it a few times from behind or the side to kill. There are two types of Goriya: red and blue. The blue ones are much stronger and throw metal boomerangs instead. Keese Description: This small bat enemy is just about the most basic enemy in the game. It flies around in a room for a few moments, then stops for a moment, and repeats. It only takes one hit to kill, too. Lanmola Description: This fast-moving centipede creature, also found in pairs, is not much harder than the Moldorm to defeat. Just attack it to decrease its size, then continue the attack until it disappears completely. Leever Description: This sand-type enemy comes out of the ground and follows you for a moment before going back into the ground. It takes more than one hit to kill, but it's pretty simple to get away from either way. Like Like Description: This sponge-like creature, found in the dungeons, has a habit of swallowing Link whole, then eating his Large Shield! Avoid close contact with this enemy; use Arrows or Bombs to take it out safely instead. Lynel Description: This half human, half beast creature is pretty tough, especially since it throws swords at you. The swords can only be blocked by the Large Shield, and this enemy is tough to beat, so make sure you hit it with the Boomerang to stop it, then attack, and repeat until you beat it. Moldorm Description: This worm-like creature, usually found in pairs, are found in some dungeons of the game. It moves around the room at a slow pace, and each time you attack with your sword, it'll get smaller and smaller until you destroy it. Octorok Description: This octopus-like creature moves along on the ground and spits rocks straight ahead. They stop before shooting, so you'll know when they're about to attack. There are two types of Octorok: the red one and the blue one. They're both the same, but the blue Octorok takes more than one hit before dying. Patra Description: This fly-like creature is a two-part enemy to fight. There are many smaller flies spinning around the main blue one, and you must destroy all the small ones with a couple hits from your sword each in order to be able to damage the main body. Kill all the small ones, then hit the blue creature a few times to kill it. Peahat Description: This rather interesting creature in the overworld flies in the air by using the propellers on its head. You can only hurt it when it's on the ground, so wait until it stops moving before attacking. Rope Description: This snake-like creature found in the dungeons dashes straight ahead when you're in its line of sight. Get out of the way or hit it as it approaches with your sword to kill it quickly. Stalfos Description: This skeleton enemy, found in the dungeons, is pretty simple to get rid of. It moves slowly, so you can quickly hit it a couple times to defeat it without worrying about getting hurt yourself. Tektite Description: This is the spider-type enemy that hops around in certain areas of the overworld. There are two colors of Tektites: blue and red. The blue ones are VERY good sources of rupees, so be sure to find areas with blue Tektites if you need some cash! Wallmaster Description: This blue hand that comes out of the walls in some rooms of the dungeons can be pretty tough since if it grabs you, you will be sent to the dungeon entrance. Defeat it from a distance, or just avoid it altogether to be safe. Wizzrobe Description: This wizard enemy, found in later dungeons, can shoot magic waves at you to attack. It disappears, then reappears at a random spot and shoots a magic beam straight ahead before disappearing again. Attack while it's visible to cause damage. Vire Description: This is the hopping blue bat creature in later dungeons. If you attack it, it'll split into 2 Keese to attack. If you have the Magical Sword, you can destroy it in one hit, preventing the split altogether. Zol Description: This giant version of the Gel is just as easy to beat. Just hit it with your sword and it'll split into 2 Gels for you to kill. If you hit it with a stronger sword or weapon, it'll die without splitting in two. Zora Description: This water-dwelling creature surfaces and shoots a fireball at you before diving underwater again to appear in another spot. Its fireballs can only be blocked by the Large Shield, but if it pops up by the edge of the water, you can quickly try to kill it with your sword. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 9. Bosses -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Aquamentus Found: (First Quest) Dungeon 1, Dungeon 7 (Second Quest) Dungeon 1 Strategy: This dragon boss is the simplest of the bosses in this game. It slowly moves back and forth and shoots fireballs in 3 different directions, which you can easily avoid. When it's not shooting fireballs at you, come in and hit it several times with your sword until you beat it. Dodongo Found: (First Quest) Dungeon 2 (Second Quest) Dungeon 3, Dungeon 8 Strategy: The Dodongo is a tough-shelled creature and can't be damaged externally. The only way to hurt it is to feed it bombs. Get in front of it and place a Bomb in front of it. The Dodongo will eat the bomb and take damage. Repeat that a few times until you beat it. An alternate method is to place a bomb so it explodes when the Dodongo is near. It will stun the Dodongo, allowing you to attack it with your sword and defeat it. Manhandla Found: (First Quest) Dungeon 3 Strategy: This weird man-eating creature moves around the room with a claw on each side. Each time you destroy a claw, it moves faster and faster. After all claws are gone, the boss is defeated. One way to quickly defeat it is to place a Bomb and time its placement so it explodes as the middle part of the boss passes over it. With luck, the bomb will hit the middle area, instantly killing the boss. Gleeok Found: (First Quest) Dungeon 4, Dungeon 8 (Second Quest) Dungeon 2, Dungeon 5, Dungeon 7 Strategy: This multi-headed dragon is situated in the middle of the room against the north wall. The heads move around and shoot fireballs that cannot be blocked at you. Attack the heads with your sword to cause damage. After enough hits, a head will detach and fly around the room, shooting fireballs. Continue attacking the attached head(s) and avoid them as they fall off and fly around. After you defeat the last head, the boss is defeated. Digdogger Found: (First Quest) Dungeon 5 (Second Quest) Dungeon 4 Strategy: This round, yellow creature is a pretty simple boss to defeat. It cannot be damaged in its normal form, but when you use the Whistle, it'll shrink down to a much smaller and more vulnerable size. Attack it at that point with your sword until you defeat it. Gohma Found: (First Quest) Dungeon 6 (Second Quest) Dungeon 6 Strategy: This giant crab-like boss is invulnerable to just about any attack you can hit it with. Its weak spot is its eyeball in the middle, and you can only hit it with Arrows. When its eye is open, shoot an Arrow to instantly kill it. Ganon Found: (Both Quests) Dungeon 9 Strategy: This is the final battle against the evil Ganon, and you better be prepared for it! Ganon will be invisible as he moves around the room shooting fireballs at you. Basically, just stab around randomly and you'll eventually hit him, making him visible for that moment. Repeat that attack pattern a few more times until Ganon turns red when you hit him. At that point, shoot him with a Silver Arrow to defeat him and beat the game! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 10. Heart Containers -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= First Quest Heart Containers ---------------------------- 1. At P3, use the Ladder to cross over the water and reach the container on the platform surrounded by water. 3. At P5, use the Raft at the dock to get to P6, then enter the cave there and choose to take the Heart Container. 4. Enter the room there and choose to take the Heart Container. 2. At K5, use the Whistle to reveal some stairs. Enter that hidden room and choose the Heart Container. 3. At P5, use the Raft to get to P6, then enter the cave there and take the Heart Container. 4. At G8, use the Whistle to make stairs appear. Go down them into a hidden room, then choose to take the Heart Container. 5. At P3, use the Ladder to go across the platforms surrounded by water to claim the Heart Container. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 11. Items -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Inventory Items --------------- Bait: You can drop this on the ground and nearby enemies will be lured towards it, making it easier for you to attack. In some dungeons, you need to give this to a Moblin in order to progress. Blue Candle: This candle that can be bought in some shops allows you to burn bushes, enemies, etc. However, it can only be used once per screen, so if you want to use it again, you must continue to the next screen and it'll be replenished. Blue Ring: This special ring protects Link from 1/2 as much damage as normal. It can only be bought in one shop in the entire game, and its price is quite steep, but it's worth it! Bomb: Use this explosive to either attack enemies or blow open secret rooms in the overworld and in the dungeons. In the start, you can only hold a certain amount of bombs, but as you go on, you can find an Old Man that'll allow you to carry more, but for a small price. Boomerang: You can throw this at an enemy to temporarily stun them, or to collect distant items, such as rupees and bombs. There are two types of Boomerangs as well: the Wooden Boomerang and the Metal Bommerang. You find the Wooden one first, which can only be thrown a short distance, but the Metal Boomerang found later can go much farther. Bow: Use this to shoot arrows at the enemies from a distance. Arrows can be bought from some shops, and they're more expensive than bombs, but they help alot when you need to keep your distance from an enemy. However, each time you shoot an Arrow, you lose 1 rupee, so use them sparingly. You normally use Wooden Arrows to attack, but late in the game you get Silver Arrows, which are crucial to defeating Ganon. Ladder: Use this to walk across narrow sections of water to get across. Letter: This letter allows you to buy Water of Life from an Old Woman throughout the game. Without it, you cannot buy anything from her. Magic Book: This book is basically an upgrade to the Magic Wand. When you use the wand, after the beam hits its target, flames appear to cause added damage. Magic Key: Found late in the game, this special key voids the need for regular Keys in the dungeons anymore. It can open any locked door, and it helps in areas lacking small Keys. Magic Wand: This magical wand can be used to shoot beams at enemies in the distance. After you get the Magic Book, its power increases since flames will also appear when a target is hit. Power Bracelet: You can use this to push aside rocks in the overworld, which reveal underground passageways. This is extremely useful, and it's recommended you go find it as soon as possible! Raft: Use this at a dock and you'll float to an otherwise unreachable area. Red Candle: This much better candle works just like the Blue Candle, but you can use it unlimited times per screen. That makes it much easier when using it to burn down bushes to find secret passages and such. Red Ring: This second protection ring protects Link so he only takes 1/4 damage from enemies than he would if he had no ring at all. It's found in the final dungeon, and it's well worth finding there too. Shield: Here's your basic protection from rocks, fireballs, arrows, and other projectile attacks. You start the game with the regular Shield, but you can buy the Large Shield which can protect from fireballs and other stuff the smaller shield couldn't. Sword: This is your main weapon to use when battling enemies; press A to use it. There are 3 different swords you can get: the Wooden Sword, White Sword, and Magical Sword. You start the game with the Wooden Sword, and you can find/obtain the other two swords later in the game. Water of Life: This special medicine, bought from Old Women, can completely heal Link when used. You must first give the Letter to an Old Woman in order to buy this medicine from her. There are two types of this Water of Life: Blue and Red. Blue Water can only be used once, and the Red one can be used twice. When you use a Red Water, it turns blue, which means you can only use it once more before it disappears. Whistle: Use this on the overworld to warp to entrances of dungeons you've already visited. You must also use this in order to defeat a certain boss, and open up another dungeon late in the game. Non-Inventory/Dungeon Items --------------------------- Compass: It places a red dot on the map, which will point out where the Triforce piece is located. Map: It displays a map of all the rooms of the dungeon on your screen, whether you explored them or not. Rupee: The money you use to buy items. There are 2 types of rupees: 1-rupee and 5-rupee pieces. The 5 rupee one is totally blue, while the 1 will flash orange and blue. Small Key: Use this to open a locked door in a dungeon. Stopwatch: Rarely dropped by enemies, this freezes all enemies onscreen. You cannot be damaged when touching them in this state, and they stay frozen until you leave the screen. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 12. You can only do this once per location though, so here's a list of all locations and how much you can get from each: First Quest Locations: B1: 30 rupees (Bomb north wall to access) B3: 10 rupees (Burn rightmost bush in second row to access) C2: 100 rupees (Burn northmost single bush to access) D7: 30 rupees (Bomb wall left of stairs to access) G3: 10 rupees (Burn southwest single bush to access) H2: 30 rupees (Bomb north wall to access) I4: 30 rupees (Burn northmost single bush to access) I6: 30 rupees (Burn south bush in second row to access) L2: 100 rupees (Burn south bush in second row from right to access) L3: 10 rupees (Burn south bush in left row to access) N5: 30 rupees (Defeat left Armos to access) N6: 30 rupees (Bomb wall right of stairs to access) O4: 10 rupees (Defeat right Armos to access) P8: 100 rupees (Walk through north wall at P7 to access) Second Quest Locations: B3: 10 rupees (Burn rightmost bush in south row to access) C6: 30 rupees D3: 100 rupees (Burn south green bush in left row to access) D7: 30 rupees (Bomb north wall to access) G3: 10 rupees (Burn south bush in leftmost row to access) I3: 30 rupees (Use Whistle to access) I4: 30 rupees (Burn right bush in upper-right corner to access) I6: 30 rupees (Burn south bush in right row to access) L3: 10 rupees (Burn south bush in leftmost row to access) L6: 10 rupees (Use Whistle to access) N5: 30 rupees (Defeat right Armos to access) N6: 30 rupees (Bomb wall right of stairs to access) O2: 10 rupees (Use Whistle to access) O4: 10 rupees (Defeat right Armos to access) Quick Save ---------- To save your game without having to die first, press Up and A on the #2 Controller to bring up the "Continue, Save, Retry" menu. Refill a Red Water of Life -------------------------- If you bought a red-colored Water of Life and use it once, it turns blue, meaning you can only use it once more before it disappears. To refill it from blue to red without wasting extra money buying a Red Water of Life from the Old Woman, simply buy another Blue Water of Life. That will make the blue one you had turn red, giving you 2 uses out of it (the way 2 blues make a red is beyond me). ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 14. Contact Information -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Due to circumstances, I am discontinuing updates to this file permanently. I simply have no time to keep up with everything anymore because of many personal issues. Thus my email is being removed from all my currently-posted FAQs and will eventually become an inactive account. When/if I write FAQs in the future, an email will be provided then, but nothing pertaining to this and other past work will be opened. I apologize if any of my FAQs still have minor errors or missing information; I covered everything to the best of my knowledge at the time.
