Having recently defeated Ganon in Hyrule (during 'A Link to the Past'), Link
decided to train and become stronger; to that end, he set out on a raft across
the Great Hyrulean Sea. He worked to increase his skills for a good while of
time, but on his way back to Hyrule at the end of his training, he met with a
storm - his raft was decimated by the lightning. He found himself washed ashore
on an island's beach where, while fading out of consciousness, he thought he
heard Zelda speaking to him. When he awoke in a bed, he soon learned that it
wasn't Zelda who found him - it was a girl named Marin, of Koholint Island.

Marin is one of the residents of Koholint Island, and has a beautiful singing
voice. She found Link washed up on Toronbo Shores, and took him back to her
home to rest. She lives with her father, Tarin, and her favorite song is the
Balled of the Wind Fish - a song that can "wake the dreamer". Marin told Link
that she has a wish - that one day she could become a seagull, fly to all the
different lands, and sing for everyone there.

Marin has a crush on Link; chances are he feels the same way.

Tarin is Marin's father, and gave Link his Shield back after he woke up. Tarin
somehow got transformed into a raccoon at one point and made the Mysterious
Forest become twisted and warped.

Kaepora Gaebora (though never named in-game) visits Link from time to time to
offer advice. He reveals inside the Egg that he is a part of the Wind Fish's
spirit/soul, thus how he knows so much about the isle of Koholint.

The Wind Fish is the one who created Koholint through its dreams. It sleeps
inside the Egg atop Mt. Tamaranch, waiting to be awakened. The song that Marin
sings, the Balled of the Wind Fish, is the only thing - along with the eight
Instruments of the Sirens - that can wake the Wind Fish.

Once it is awakened, the island of Koholint will vanish into nothingness.

The "Nightmares" invaded the Wind Fish's dream-world and manifested themselves
throughout Koholint. In order to make the world theirs forever, they made the
Wind Fish sleep endlessly. If it wakes up, they will vanish along with
Koholint. Only the dungeon bosses and the six creatures in the Egg are
considered Nightmares. They are...

Ulrira - An old introverted man; he insists on talking to people over the
         telephone, rather than in person.

Madame MeowMeow - A rich woman who owns two small BowWow and one large BowWow.

Papahl - The father of the four quadruplets in Mabe. His wife isn't named,
         though "Mamahl" could work.

Sale - An alligator that sells bananas and lives near/on Toronbo Shores.

Richard - A young man who lived in the Ukuku Prairie's castle, but was forced
          to leave when his servants went berserk. He asks Link to find the
          five Golden Leaves he left behind when he fled.

Kiki - A monkey that, when given bananas, has several other monkeys build a
       bridge for Link.

Mr. Write - A man who loves to write letters.

Christine - A goat who lives in Animal Village, Christine exchanges letters
            with Mr. Write. One letter included a picture of Peach (from the
            Super Mario game series), but signed with Christine's own name.

Chef Bear - A bear who lives in Animal Village and is rather good at cooking.

BowWow - An aggressive round, black creature that has a very powerful jaw.

Schule Donavitch - An alligator who's good at painting and has a French accent.
                   He made the mermaid statue in Martha Bay.

Mamu - A talking frog musician who teaches Link his previously unreleased song,
       "The Frog's Song of Soul".

"Link" = When you start a new game, you can choose whatever name you want for
         the character you play as. Since it's the official name for him, I've
         gone with Link in this guide. If you picked a different name, simply
         switch it with Link whenever it appears.

* - At night, over the ocean, a raging storm tosses a raft back and forth.
    Lightning continues to strike, eventually hitting the raft and, in a bright
    flash of light, obscuring the player's view of the event.

    The next day, on an island's beach, a girl walks along the sands. Suddenly,
    she pauses, then begins to run. Further down the beach, she comes to Link -
    who was on the raft before - who is lying unconscious on the ground. She
    bends down, looking to see if he's alive.

    The camera pans up the nearby mountain, Mt. Tamaranch, stopping as it
    arrives at a gigantic egg sitting atop it - the Wind Fish's Egg. The "The
    Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening" logo appears over the Egg.

WIND FISH: PLAY THE EIGHT INSTRUMENTS! PLAY THE SONG OF AWAKENING!!

* - The eight Instruments of the Siren's appear over Link as the Balled of the
    Wind Fish starts to play. One by one, everyone on Koholint Island
    disappears within flashes of light; included Marin, still performing her
    song in Mabe. Following her, the entire island also fades into nothingness.

    The platform Link is on is sent spiraling through the air by a sharp burst
    of water. The screen whites out, and comes back at the wreckage of Link's
    raft, in the sea. Link slowly wakes up to the sight of a few seagulls
    flying - looking up, he sees the Wind Fish, floating passed the sun,
    causing a brief eclipse. After it moves on, Link watches the seagulls -
    the credits begin to roll against that backdrop.

    At the end of the credits, the Wind Fish flies off screen. Link looks up a
    bit, and Marin's image appears in the sky; a seagull flies through it,
    making it disappear.

    The screen blacks out.

v1.00 (09/09/05) - Everything's finished except for some stuff in the "Extra
                   Sections" area, which I'll hopefully finish up fairly soon.

v1.05 (09/16/05) - Added a "Character Intros" section to the now-reworked
                   Introduction section. I also added some more to the
                   Miscellaneous Messages subsection, but it still isn't
                   complete. Oh, and I added a new typo as well.

v1.08 (09/26/05) - Finished the Miscellaneous Messages section, made a Crazy
                   Tracy subsection ([3'06]), and added/changed a few other
                   very minor things.

v1.10 (04/15/06) - Redid the scene descriptions and some of the layout, removed
                   the Opening Statements section, and added GamerHelp.com to
                   the allowed sites list.

like to keep your name private ("anonymous"), or if you don't want any credit
