BEFORE YOU BEGIN / /__________________________________________________________________________/ _________________ / GENERAL INFO / Hey there, and welcome to my guide for Zelda: Oracle of Ages, released for Game Boy Color on May 15, 2001. Its sister game, Oracle of Seasons, also came out on this date. It features a different game, but the two games can be linked up to open up many secrets. THIS GUIDE ONLY COVERS THE NORMAL GAME FOR ORACLE OF AGES. I have simply been unable to find the time to even play through a linked game, much less devote the extra hours upon hours needed to write a walkthrough for it. If you are looking for help with a linked game in Ages, please use one of the other guides found at (http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/gbcolor/game/31269.html). If you need help with Oracle of Seasons, please use one of the guides found at (http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/gbcolor/game/26855.html). That out of the way, I hope you enjoy the guide. _____________ / CONTROLS / -Control Pad -- Moves Link in corresponding direction on screen -- Moves selection on menu screens -Select -- Opens Map -- Changes screens while in Inventory Window -- Opens Save Menu (while holding Start) -Start -- Opens Inventory Window -- Opens Save Menu (while holding Select) -B Button -- Uses Selected B Item while on screen and selects it on inventory menu -- Gets off of animals -- Submerges while swimming -A Button -- Uses Selected A Item while on screen and selects it on inventory menu -- General actions (Talking to people, reading signs, etc.) -- Swims faster __________ / STORY / (taken from the instruction manual) Link awoke one day to find himself deep in strange forest. As he started to walk through the woods, he heard cries for help coming from just up ahead of him. Link hurried toward the voice, only to find a group of monsters surrounding the woman who was screaming. When the monsters saw Link, they immediately fled. The woman who was being attacked was none other than Impa, nurse to Hyrule's Princess Zelda. Impa said she had come to the forest to search for a singer named Nayru. "Can't you help me look?" Impa asked. Despite the strange look she gave him, Link could not refuse her request. Together they found a large stone with a rune on it. Naturally, Link moved the stone, but Impa wouldn't so much as lay a hand on it. As they traveled even deeper into the forest, they found a young woman singing. Invited to sit by the group of animals that listened to the girl's song, Link joined in the circle and let the beautiful song fill his ears and penetrate his heart. This was surely Nayru, the singer Impa was searching for. Just then, Impa erupted in a cackling laugh. "Ah ha ha ha ha ha!" A darkness surrounded Impa, and a frightening shadow lifted from her body. "Nayru! Oracle of Ages! I, Veran, Sorceress of Shadows, shall make you my own!" The shadow that called itself Veran began swooping about the forest before flying straight into the body of the frightened singer. A blinding light shone forth from Nayru's body. When Link's eyes had grown used to the light, he realized that Nayru looked very strange. Her face seemed veiled in shadow, and her bright smile had vanished. A piercing, evil gaze had replaced it. "Ha ha ha ha ha!" "Now the power of the Oracle of Ages is mine! I can travel through time at will! Now a new age shall begin--an age of shadows!" And with that, Veran and Nayru vanished. Nayru was actually the Oracle of Ages who controlled time in this land of Labrynna. When the oracle was kidnapped, the flow of time in Labrynna was distorted, and strange things began to happen. Before vanishing, Veran said, "When the past changes, so does the present." Her plan was to travel to the past and gather power from the sorrows of the people of Labrynna so that she could create her age of shadows. /¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯/ / 2. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS / /__________________________________________________________________________/ -Which game should I buy, Ages or Seasons? This is a very common question that I've seen, and there's no simple answer to it. From what I've heard from those who have played both games, Seasons is a game that tends to focus a bit more on the action aspect of the Zelda games and is likened more towards the Zelda games that appeared on the NES. Ages is more puzzle-oriented, and is supposedly more like the N64 Zelda games. My recommendation is that if you have the cash, pick up both. They're both very diffferent games. However, if you can only get one, I suggest you make the decision based on the information above and your preferences about what kind of game you think you'd enjoy more. -What does that number on the game select screen mean? It tells the number of times you have run out of hearts and faced a Game Over screen. -How can I talk to Nayru at the beginning of the game? Those animals are blocking my way! Just talk to each animal once (pressing A), then go back and talk to the bear. He should move out of your way so that you can talk to Nayru. -Where can I get a Potion and what does it do? A potion is an automatic item that stays on the second page of your inventory screen until you are faced with you a situation where you run out of hearts. When this happens, it will automatically bring you back to life with a full heart meter and will not count as a Game Over on your counter. Potions can be gotten in three ways: by running into Maple the witch, who will drop them randomly from time to time; by finding one inside a Gasha Nut, which is quite rare; or by purchasing one from the Witch's Shop in the Yoll Graveyard (Present) for 300 Rupees. -How do I find Maple? Maple appears on the next non-town screen you go on after you have killed 30 enemies. You can speed up the process by wearing the Maple's Ring, as it will have Maple appear after every 15 kills instead of 30. -What do I do with Gasha Seeds? You can plant them whenever you find a patch of soft soil. After a certain period of time (I'm guessing the number of enemies killed), they will grow into a tree, then will grow a Gasha Nut. Hit the Gasha Nut with your sword to break it open and give you an item that is usually quite rare. -How do I pop Tingle's balloon? Simply stand beside Tingle, equip your Roc's Feather and Sword, and swing your sword while jumping. It ought to pop his balloon, dropping him back to the ground. -Can I get all three animals? Which animal is the best one to get? Nope, there's no way to get the flutes for all three animals. As for which one is the best, well, that's a total judgment call. The animal you choose really doesn't make a difference in anything you do in the game, as the only time you'll be likely to use them is when you're traveling through Nunn Highlands. -I used the Old Mermaid Key to open the Mermaid's Cave in the present, but I can't get into the Cave in the past. What can I do? One of the most commonly asked questions about the game. In the area of Rolling Ridge, visit the Target Shooting game found in the Past to win the Lava Juice. After you win it, leave and go one screen west, drop down the ledge, go north, and enter the cave. Talk to the Goron standing near the entrance, and he'll give you a Letter of Introduction to the Graceful Goron in exchange for the Lava Juice. Play the Goron Dancing Game to win the Mermaid Key to open the other door to the Mermaid's Cave. -I got into Zora Village, but I don't have a Potion and I can't get back out. Is there anything I can do? Yes. Surface above the water and go onto land. Play the Tune of Ages and warp into the present (if you're not already in it), and find the Gale Tree. Get some Gale Seeds from it, and use one to warp back to the mainland. Buy a potion from the witches in the graveyard, then use another Gale Seed to warp back to Zora Village. If you have any questions about the game that aren't already covered in the guide, feel free to send them to me at joyblatt@mylink.net. /¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯/ / 3. WALKTHROUGH / /__________________________________________________________________________/ ______________________ / GAME INTRODUCTION / Once you gain control of Link, head north and meet Impa. Watch with joy as your mere presence sends the monsters scurrying. (Too bad you can't do this for the rest of the game.) Impa tells you that she is looking for the singer Nayru and requests that you let her accompany you while you protect her from any other beasts. You'll very quickly come to a rock that Impa claims she cannot move herself. Simply walk up beside it and push it by pressing the arrow pad in the Direction you want to push. Continue north to meet Nayru. After the game's plot unfolds, go back and talk to Impa. She will give you the Wooden Sword, and instruct you to go to the Maku Tree in Lynna City. Head into town by going south and then clearing out the shrubs with your sword. Once you're in town, go north to visit Vasu's Jewelry Shop. Talk with him to receive the L-1 Ring Box. He will then give you a ring that he will appraise for you. You should also be sure to read the red and blue books located on either side of Vasu to gain a general understanding of how the link system works. Feel free to explore the town. One very nice place to visit is the Know-It-All Birds' Hut in the western part of the city, as they offer very good advice for anyone new to the Zelda series, as well as a few other things not found in other Zelda games. You can also have a look around the Item Shop, although odds are you don't have enough money to buy anything. When you're ready to advance the story, head north from the Jewelry Shop and enter the Maku Road. Despite the Danger signs posted throughout the cave, you can simply walk straight through to meet the Maku Tree. Right when it looks like you're going to get some help (other than mine), Veran makes the Maku Tree disappear! Head east to meet back up with Ralph, and prepare for a journey to the past. __________________ / LYNNA VILLAGE / You'll arrive in a period of time several hundred years before the first part of the game. Head southwest to get into Lynna Village, and look around and talk with the townspeople. You'll find out that Queen Ambi, who many once considered a very kind-hearted person, has become much different. Not to anyone's surprise, you'll also find out that the queen has a new aide named Nayru that many consider to be partly responsible for the queen's behavior. Also, make sure to visit the house in the northwest-most part of the village. The man inside will give you your first Gasha Seed, which you can plant in the plot of soil a little bit south of his house. When you try to go see the Maku Tree, however, you'll notice the path is now blocked. Since the villagers say that all of their tools are being used for the Ambi Tower. Head to the southwest part of the village to go search there and see what you can find... Talk to the guard blocking the entrance, and he'll let you by. Once inside, simply follow the one-way route around until you reach the end. Talk to the person wearing an orange helmet, and he'll give you a shovel. Head back to the village, but make sure to grab the Heart Piece sitting there behind the mounds of dirt before you leave. Now head back to Maku Road. ______________ / MAKU ROAD / Ah, the first puzzles of the game. Don't worry, though, they're VERY tame. In the first room, simply push the block one space to the north to open the door. In the next room, push the center block either one space to the left or right. Go to the east and defeat the three mini-blobs inside with your sword to open the doors. Continuing on, push the block north so that it falls into the pit (where you DON'T want to go, in case you were curious.) Take the right path, and push the block on the left north and push the other block to the right and press the switch. Go the other way to open the chest and claim a Small Key. Go back the way you came and open the locked door with the key. In the next room, there are quite a few blocks surrounding the switch that you need to get to to open the door. #o# # # 1-Push to the left # 3 2 # # # 2-Push up # # 1 # # # 3-Push left ##### ##### In the next room, be sure to take the Heart Piece by pushing the lower left block up and by pushing the bottom center block to the left to clear a path. To leave the room, push the lone block on the right side of the room one space in any direction. Take the stairs up, and be prepared for a short and easy swordfight with two moblins that are attacking the Maku Scrub. She will destroy the wall to the south for you, and you can leave and take the portal back to the present day Lynna City. Head North and talk to the Maku Tree once again. She will tell you that you must find the eight Essences of Time to be able to defeat Veran. She'll instruct you to head to Yoll Graveyard in the east, and will give you a Seed Satchel containing 20 Ember Seeds. You can look around inside the tree in the Hall of Secrets, although you don't have any yet. If you want to make some quick money, head back to the south and use your newly acquired Ember Seeds to burn down the small tree on the right side of the screen. Doing this will open the path to a chest that contains 30 Rupees. You should now leave the town to the east and head back in the direction you began the game. When you see another small tree, burn it to begin your search for the Graveyard Key. ___________________ / YOLL GRAVEYARD / Once you're into the graveyard, burn down the next tree and go east, south, then west. You'll run into a group of boys discussing a hidden path under a tree. Head south then east until you reach the end, and burn the small to the south using your Ember Seeds. Go down the stairs. You'll arrive in an almost pitch-black room. Go north, and use your Ember Seeds to light the two candles to make the Graveyard Key fall from the ceiling. Spooky, no? Head back the way you came and go north to find the gate that your Graveyard Key unlocks. From there, follow the path until you enter the Spirit's Grave. ______________________________ / LEVEL ONE--SPIRIT'S GRAVE / MAP ¯¯¯ # #B M = Mini-Boss ### B = Dungeon Boss #M## ^ = Entrance # ### # ## #### ^ Go east as you enter, and defeat the enemies in that room. After doing so, go north, and push the block up, then go the left part of the room and take the stairs to get to a chest containing a dungeon map. Fall down, and push the block into the hole to open the doors. Take the north door, and push the block in the middle north to get to the chest containing the Compass. Go west until you reach what is seemingly a dead end, then use an Ember Seed on the wall to make it open up a hidden room where you can get a ring. Go back the way you came, pushing the block into the hole once again, and this time go through the door that opens to the east. Defeat the ghost that's flying around by whacking it with your sword five times, then grab the small key and head west. Push the block and then head through the locked door to the north. Push the block on the right up one space, then grab the small key from the chest. Head west, then follow the path all the way back to the east. You'll enter a room with a block lay-out like this: 1-Push up 3 5 2-Push left 214 3-Push up ## ## 4-Push right 5-Push up Press the two switches located in the room, then carefully get on the moving platform to reach the chest which contains another key. Head back out, go one screen west, and go north. Get on the moving platform in the room, then get off on the narrow strip and push the block there east. Walk around and press the switch, then go back and get the Gasha Seed out of the chest. Get back on the moving platform, and exit to the west. Go into the room and prepare for your first mini-boss battle... MINI-BOSS STRATEGY: Start swinging your sword as soon as you enter the room to destroy the three small ghosts that will come at you. After that, simply get near the large ghost and hack away. You should destroy it in just a few hits, which will do three things: release a fairy to heal any damage you may have taken, open up a teleport to the dungeon entrance, and open the door to the west. You should head in that direction, and go through the locked door there. Push the two blocks on either side of the middle block down, and then push the middle block left or right to get through. Go north, and use your Ember Seeds to light the two candles. They'll make a staircase appear right in front of you. Down those stairs is your newest item- the Power Bracelet. Equip it, and head back to where the pots were blocking the chest earlier. To pick up pots (and other assorted items), stand next to the pot and hold down the button for the Power Bracelet while pressing the arrow key in the opposite direction of the object you want to lift. Get the ring out of the chest (it's the Discovery Ring, as you'll find out when you appraise it), and head south. Here, push the pot onto the switch to open the door. Go into the next room, and remove the pot in front of the chest to get the Boss Key. Go one more room east to return to the entrance of the dungeon. If you're not at full strength, go back into the last room and move some pots around to find hearts (as well as plenty of Rupees). When you're ready, take the teleporter back to the room where you fought the mini-boss, and go two rooms to the north. Go through the locked door, and prepare for your first boss battle... BOSS STRATEGY: This boss is fairly easy. Sneak up behind it and hit it four times with your sword. Its body will disappear. Now pick up the head with your Power Bracelet, and throw it onto the creature that crawled out. Repeat this process one more time, and you should have the boss beat. Collect the piece of heart from the center of the room, then head north to collect the Eternal Spirit, your first Essence. After you talk with the Maku Tree, head one screen north, then one west. Pick up the stone, then talk to the ghost. Push the headstone up, then enter and talk to the ghost again. Leave, and talk to it one final time. You'll receive the Poe Clock from it. Also, before you leave the graveyard, go back south in the direction of where you got the graveyard key. Plant the Gasha seed you got in the patch of soft soil, then head one screen south and get the Heart Piece. Head back into town and get your two rings appraised, if you have the moolah. You'll now be able to equip the Discovery Ring or the L1 Power Ring. ___________________ / FAIRIES' WOODS / To get to the Fairies' Woods, leave Lynna City from the southwest. Follow the path until you meet the three fairies who want to play hide and seek with you. To find the first one, go left and down one screen, then cut the bushes. Go back to the central area (where you first met the Fairies) and go right one screen, then left. Cut the bushes to find a second fairy. To find the final fairy, go down, up, down, and up from the central area. The fairies will then return the forest normal. Head east to arrive at the entrance to Level 2. Simply pull the boulder blocking your way, and... D'oh. The Maku Tree will check to see if you're okay, then advise you to go look inside Nayru's house. Once you get there, push the statue behind Impa and go into the oh-so-well-hidden room to find the Harp of Ages. Nayru will then teach you the Tune of Echoes. Leave, and stand on the odd-colored patch of land next to Nayru's house and play your new harp to go back in time... You'll be heading to the forest again soon, but stop by the postman's house first and give him the Poe Clock. Take the Stationery he gives you and give it to the hand that lives in the house in the west side of town. I'm not going to be the one that speculates on what he uses it for, but he'll you a Stink Bag as a reward (or something). ________________ / DEKU FOREST / You'll meet lots of people in the forest that are looking for something that Queen Ambi desires so that they will not be forced to work on the Black Tower. Follow the path through the forest (it's not straight, but there's only one way you can go for now). Continue until you see a small tree that you can burn with an Ember Seed, then take the stairs inside to claim a Heart Piece. You'll also meet a couple of Deku Salesmen trying to sell you shields, but don't buy one yet. When you reach the next underground cave, go west and buy a shield from the Deku above the ground for 10 Rupees. Now go back around the other way, and get some of the green Mystery Seeds from the tree by hitting them with your sword. Note that you can use Mystery Seeds to receive helpful messages from blue owls throughout the land, including the one next to the tree. Go back through the forest, and you'll eventually be met by a soldier who will take you directly to Queen Ambi's palace. She will take your seeds to give to Nayru, and give you some Bombs as a reward. Go back to the forest, then go to the dungeon and use a bomb to blast away the door. ____________________________ / LEVEL TWO--WING DUNGEON / MAP ¯¯¯ 1F B1F ¯¯ ¯¯¯ M# #B# ##### ### ### ### M = Mini-Boss #### B = Dungeon Boss ### ^ = Entrance ## ^ # Welcome to the second dungeon of this game. This dungeon is larger and has tougher puzzles than the first dungeon you explored had, but it's still nothing extremely tough. Upon entering, head north with your shield and sword equipped. Use the shield to flip over the spiked enemies, then slice them with your sword. In the next room, you have a puzzle where you must roll the cube into the hole. However, unlike previous incarnations of this puzzle, this time you have to be a bit craftier to open the door. To flip the cube over correctly, push it three spaces to the right, down once, left once, up once, then push it into the hole. In the next room, look for a cracked wall, and bomb it. Go through to get the map. Now follow the path until you reach a dead-end room, then defeat the four enemies in there to receive a small key. Head back to the beginning of the dungeon, going through the locked door in the room with the spiked creatures. In the next room, defeat the five snakes, then bomb the cracked wall on the south side of the room. Go down the stairs, then carefully move along the moving platforms (being careful not to be squashed) until you reach a room with more snakes. Defeat them to get a small key. Go back the way you came, but this time go through the multi-holed room to the north, grabbing the Compass from the chest on the way. Go through the locked door, and hop onto the cart. Once you're off, prepare to go into battle... MINI-BOSS STRATEGY: This guy's a bit tougher than anything you've fought before, but still shouldn't be terribly hard. When he's in the air, run around on the blue tiles until he looks like he's going to drop from the sky, then get away from him. When he lands, hit him with your sword. He will get gradually faster as the number of hits he takes increases, and after six hits, he'll begin to bounce up two more times after he lands, so be careful not to be tricked. After ten hits, he'll finally croak, and you should continue on through the top room on the east side. Take the stairs down, then continue south. Go through the room being careful to dodge as many arrows as you can, then go east. Take the stairs, then go down and collect the Roc's Feather, which allows you to jump. While leaving, note that there is a platform that holds a Blue Rupee you can get to by jumping on the Thwomp. Now go back downstairs. See that yellow tile in the floor? Jump over it. When done correctly, it will change to blue. Jump over it again to make it red, and the doors will open. Go west, then jump across the room to get to the cart. The cart will carry you into another room, where you should hit the switch with your sword to change the tracks. First, bomb the cracked section of the eastern wall and take out the enemies inside to get a key. Now go to the cube, and push the block left, down, right, up, left, down, right, then up three times to raise the rail. Now get back on the cart, and ride to the next room. In this room, you must jump on the four red tiles until their colors match those of the other four blocks in the room. Once you do that, you will get another small key. Now head east, take the stairs, then go into the room where you fought the mini-boss earlier. Take the bottom exit on the east side of the room, then go south. Jumping across the room, you will reach another traffic light. Simply jump across the colored tile twice to make it blue, and the gate will lift. Now go back to where the key block is, go through it, and hop on the cart. Grab a Gasha Seed from the chest, then head north. In this room, I recommend taking out all of the enemies first. Then, get rid of the lower left pot and push the top right pot along the path shown below. You'll have to use the Roc's Feather to get into position to push it in some areas. --- - -#### % = Jar # #---- - = Floor Tile -# -###o- # = Path of Jar -# ----- o = Switch -# -- %% %%-- After you do this, go east, then enter the room to the south. Note that you have a color changing tile near the top of the room, a 3x3 design on the left of statues, and then enough statues to make the same design on the right side of the room. Hop over the tile to make it yellow, then push the yellow statue into the center of the blue tiles. Change the tile color to blue and push the blue statues into their spots that match up with the left statues, then change the tile color to red and push the final four statues into their spots. When all statues are correctly placed, a key will drop down. Now head north one screen, and go through the locked door to the east. You'll arrive in a room that is entirely red, except for one tile in the center. When you jump across it, the entire room changes color, and a number of red enemies appear, no longer camouflaged by the floor color. You should now quickly hit one of these enemies with your sword before they again blend in with the color. Continue this process until all of the blobs are beaten and a chest containing the boss key appears. Now head out, go through the locked door to the north, then through the door to the boss's lair. Grab the bombs and the fairy from under the jars, then head down the stairs to begin your second boss battle... BOSS STRATEGY: This boss is extremely easy to beat once you understand how to defeat it. To damage the boss, you must throw bombs into the creature while the red face is showing from the top tiers of the two sides of the room. If you successfully throw a bomb in while the red face is showing, it will drop a heart in the center of the room and be one hit closer to defeat. If you mis-time it, however, you will be faced with the possibility of three different attacks: Blue: Sends out a series of glowing orbs. Stand on the rock part of the second ledge on either side to be safe. Purple: Drops down to the ground, causing several projectiles to fall from the ceiling. Stand on the rock part of the second ledge on either side to be safe from this. Green: Shoots out a number of fireballs. Stand on the top ledge to be out of their range. Continue trying to throw bombs into while the red face is showing. When you do it successfully four times, it will be defeated. If you run out of bombs, wait for the spinning faces to begin shooting out fireballs, and watch for it to throw out some bombs. Grab them, then continue the process. After you defeat it, grab the Heart Container, then take the right ladder down to receive your second Essence, the Ancient Wood. Head back in the direction of Lynna Village, but when you get to the part where you see two holes, jump over them and continue north. When you get to an area where there are four stones, use your shovel to dig in the center of them to uncover a spot of soft soil. Plant a Gasha Seed in it, then use the stairs on left to take you down to a cave which holds a Heart Piece. Go back to Lynna Village, and explore the southern part of the town to find Rafton's house. Talk to him, and you'll find out that he wants to make a raft, but that he needs some rope to bind it with. After your conversation, head east and look for Cheval's house. Go in, talk to him, then leave. You'll be met by Ralph, who will tell you that he remembers seeing the name Cheval in the present. Use the Harp of Ages to get back to the present, then go to Yoll Graveyard. You'll stumble upon a large blue creature surrounded by three ghosts. Defeat the three ghosts, then talk to the creature. Moosh will introduce himself to you, then explain how you can control him. Head west then north, and he'll explain to you how he can float. Use that to get across the gaps, then dismount and push the headstone next to the rock to open the path to the grave. When you get to the signpost, equip your Power Bracelet and the Roc's Feather. Pull the handle all the way back, then jump across the water and dash between the blocks to grab the Zora's Flippers. Now swim around and collect the Cheval Rope. Leave, and head back to the past. Go deliver the rope to Rafton. He'll invite you to be the first to ride on his raft, but you'll need an Island Chart before he'll let you out. You'll again meet up with the increasingly annoying Ralph. Go back to the Present again, and head back in the direction of the graveyard. Talk to Ricky the kangaroo, and he'll tell you he needs his gloves before he can help you. Head to the beach, then dig in the mounds of dirt with your shovel until you find Ricky's Gloves. Take them to him, then hop into his pouch. Head south, then west. Use Ricky's strong legs to carry you up to Tingle, the famed fairy from Zelda: Majora's Mask. Pop his balloon with your sword, then talk to him to get the Island Chart. Now go back to the past (It's the last time for a while, I promise!) and go visit Rafton once again. Ride around on your raft until you end up getting caught in a storm. Your raft will be struck by lightning, and you'll wake up on... ____________________ / CRESCENT ISLAND / As you come to, you'll see a group of Tokay (they're the green lizardlike creatures that inhabit this island) running off with all of your items. Head south, east, and south first of all to reclaim your Shovel. Head into the cave just to the north to get your sword back. Now head one screen west, and push the green sprout two spaces to the right. Now go north and around. Talk to the Deku Salesman to buy a shield, then continue south. Push the sprout there to the patch of dirt in the upper left part of the screen. Now go around until you reach the hut with the Tokay that has your Roc's Feather and your Power Bracelet. First, exchange the shovel for the feather, and head back to the cave where you got your sword. Go to the western part of the cave, and jump into the left-most corner. Push the blocks until you can get to the chest, which contains a Gasha Seed. Go back to the Traders' Hut and exchange until you get your Power Bracelet. Head south and go around until you are on the path being blocked by the single stone. Go down the stairs, then move the blocks to get through and get your bombs back from the chicken coop. Blow up the breakable rocks on the way back to get a Gasha Seed from the chest. Now head up towards the Traders' Hut until you see a breakable wall that you should bomb. Head in to play the game. MINI-GAME STRATEGY: Grab the food from the center, and throw it directly to the Tokay on either side. When you are successful, you'll receive a Scent Seedling. You can play again for other prizes, although the game gets much more difficult. Now head to the northern part of the island, and talk to the Tokay there to plant your Scent Seedling. Drop down, then get your feather back. Hop over the holes on the southern part of the island, then go into the cave where the breakable wall is just to the north. Hop around and blow stuff up to get to the Tokay that has your Flippers. Go to the Traders' Hut and get your Power Bracelet (getting tired of this yet?). Head back to the cave you got the flippers from, and go dive in the water in the northwest part of the room. Follow the path to get your Seed Satchel back. Go back to the Trading Hut yet again, and purchase your feather back for ten Mystery Seeds. Now go to the cave in the southwest part of the island armed with the feather and your bracelet. Go through, and get your Harp of Ages. Go to the time warp spot on the eastern part of the island, and play the harp. Be sure to stop by the chef's hut and give him the Stink Bag to help clear his nose. He'll give you some Tasty Meat in return. Now climb the vine in the central part of the island, then follow the path until you come upon two shrubs and two rocks. Plant a Gasha Seed in the soft soil you find, then head around to where you planted your seedling earlier. Collect the Scent Seeds from the tree, then head back to the past. Trade ten of the seeds to get back all of your items from the Traders' Hut (finally!), then head back to the cave in the southwest part of the island. Go to the warp spot there, then go north and follow the path to enter the third level, the Moonlit Grotto. ________________________________ / LEVEL THREE--MOONLIT GROTTO / 1F B1F ¯¯ ¯¯¯ ## #B# ## #M M = Mini-Boss ### ### B = Dungeon Boss ### ### ^ = Entrance ## ## ### ## ^ After you enter, go north and defeat the two enemies inside to open the eastern door. Hit the crystal with your sword, then go north and ride the wheel. In the next room, you'll see a lot of blocks, four green statues, and a crystal in the middle of everything. To start, bomb the the block on the right side of the room closest to the statues. After doing that, stand where it was and throw a bomb to the left to break another block. Go to the top part of the room and push down the block there, then throw another bomb down. Now go push the blocks and shatter the crystal, and push up the block next that is right beside the crystal. Push the green statue there so that it forms a square formation with the other statues, and a key will drop down. Go back the way you came, and go through the locked door to the north. Drop down into the pit. Defeat the group of monsters that is unleashed upon your arrival, and exit to the south. Defeat the caged monster and again take the south exit. Play your Harp of Ages to kill the two aged enemies instantly, and take the left door. Go north and take the stairs, then shatter the third crystal. Head back down the stairs into the room with the caged monster, and throw a bomb or two at him to open the door on the left. In the next room, stand back and throw a bomb onto the conveyor belt so that it explodes next to the switch. Use a bomb to kill the soldier and grab the compass, then take the stairs. When you get to the room with the six blocks in it, push them so that each block borders the wall to get a key. Head out, and drop down off the ledge. You can play your Harp of Ages to kill the enemies in there and get the Dungeon Map if you need it. Now head east to return to the entrance. Head up, and enter the Wheel Room from the west. Hop on, then go south, west, north, and ride it again to go out the northern exit. Make sure you're stocked up on bombs, and go into the eastern room. Place a bomb on the statue in the upper-right corner, then quickly step on the switch to get one of them out of the way easily. Place bombs around the room and hope for a bit of luck to clear out the other three and receive another key. Go through the locked door to the north. Stand in the lower-left corner and repeatedly swing your sword to stay safe, then go through the door to the west. Head around and pick up the rupees out of the chest, then go through the locked door to the north. Head west, then defeat the enemies in there to claim a Seed Shooter. Go back the way you came using the Seed Shooter to fire an Ember Seed at the candle in the center of the room to open the door. Continue until you reach the room where the one un-broken crystal remains, and use your Seed Shooter to do a bank shot off the wall to break the last crystal. (You can aim with the shooter by holding down the button assigned to it and using the arrow pad to turn.) Head south to where the wheel used to be to get a Gasha Seed, then head west and drop down to the lower floor. Go east, and take the newly lowered wheel around to the south exit from the room. Push the blocks on either side into the pits, then ricochet Ember Seeds to light the two candles and make a chest containing a Gasha Seed appear. Go west, north, and east and ride the wheel again. Go north until you reach the level mini-boss. MINI-BOSS STRATEGY: This guy is insanely simple. Equip your sword and shovel, then stand and wait for him to come at you when he's underground. When he's right next to you, use the shovel to flip him out, then hit him with your sword as many times as possible. Ten hits, and he'll be toast. Continue west and north one room, then push the lower-right block to the left to get a key. Go back the way you came and go through the wheel room. Now go north. You can hit the switch with your sword to turn the platform around, then bank a seed shot off of it to hit the lever and create a bridge. Go through the locked door, then use seeds to hit the switch and lever in the next room. When you get to the room with the boss door, push the block to the right and go back to the wheel room again. In this room, step on and off of the switch until the two rotating boards are aligned in the fashion of (//). When they are, fire a seed of the top wall that will bounce and hit the lever to open the door. Go back to the entrance to the boss chamber, and prepare to fight... BOSS STRATEGY: Upon entering, the witch will disperse into four shadows that will swarm you and chase you around the room. Run from them until you see the two eyes appear. Pull out your Seed Shooter and fire one at them, then turn so that Link's back is facing the witch. When she materializes, fire a seed off of the wall so that it will hit her. Repeat this six times, and you'll be able to claim another heart container and your third Essence of Time, the Echoing Howl. After the short cutscene, follow the path up to where some Tokay are preparing to feast on a large red fish that has washed up. Talk to the Tokay on the left and offer him some Ember Seeds, and they'll run off. Talk to the creature whose name is Dimitri, and he'll offer you a ride. You can head east and plant a Gasha Seed on the tiny islet if you want, but when you're ready to continue, go north and go back to the mainland. Next, go back to where Tingle was. Go inside the cave and use your Seed Shooter to bounce a seed off the walls and into the switch, then go talk to Tingle to receive a much larger Seed Satchel that holds 50 seeds instead of 20. After that, go through town and deliver the Tasty Meat to the Happy Mask Man who lives just northwest of Lynna City, then take the mask he gives you and give it to Mamamu Yan, who will give you a lone dumbbell in return. Now, if you've been studying your instruction manual, you'd see that there's a point in the game where you can get a flute to call an animal partner, but that you can only get a flute for one of the three animals. I'm going to divide this section up based on the animals, so follow the walkthrough for the animal you want in the next part. ____________ / DIMITRI / Head to the shop and buy the Strange Flute that's in there for 150 Rupees. Take the west exit out of the city, then go north. Fire an Ember Seed at the small tree on the screen, then fire a second one to hit the switch that creates a bridge across. Continue across and keep going until you find a man trying to build a bridge. Talk to him, then head back. As you're going along, one of the fairies from the Fairies' Forest will stop you and tell you that a red, lizard-like animal got lost in their forest. Agree to help them, then go to the forest. Go up, down, and up from where the three fairies are. Once you find Dimitri, you'll be returned outside the forest. Dimitri will offer to help you whenever you play your flute, which is now renamed Dimitri's Flute on your Inventory Screen. Go talk to the man building the bridge again, and he'll ask you to find his three helpers. Go south then east and go up the waterfall to find the first man. Go back down the waterfall and go east, then go up the waterfall there into the cave. Collect the ring from the chest, then head back out and talk to the second man that's standing right there. From there, head north and talk to the third man. You'll be returned to the site of the bridge, where the men will complete it in just a matter of seconds. You can now cross it and head into Symmetry City. Skip down past the guides for getting Moosh and Ricky to continue your quest. __________ / MOOSH / To get Moosh, simply head out of the western exit of Lynna City and go north. Shoot an Ember Seed to burn the tree, then another to hit the switch and make the bridge appear. Go across, then hop across the small holes until you get to the man building the bridge. Go back the way you came. As you're going along, one of the fairies from the Fairies' Forest will stop you and tell you that a big, winged, bear-like animal got lost in their forest. Agree to help them, then go to the forest. Go up, down, and up from where the three fairies are. Once you find Moosh, you'll be returned outside the forest. He'll give you a flute that you can call him with at any time. Go talk to the man building the bridge again, and he'll ask you to find his three helpers. Hop on Moosh, then go east. Go to where the shrub is, then jump onto the stairs and go around the holes to find the first man. Now head north and go east. Jump over the holes there to talk to the second man. Now go south, then east. When you get to a divide in the paths, take the north-most path route the first two times. Go inside the cave to collect a ring from a chest, then go back out and take the lower route. You'll be returned to the site of the bridge, where the men will complete it in just a matter of seconds. You can now cross it and head into Symmetry City. Skip down past the guide for getting Ricky to continue your quest. __________ / RICKY / To get Ricky, use the Harp of Ages to go into the past. Play the Target Practice game until you get a good enough score to win a Strange Flute. Now go back to the present, and take the west exit out of the city, then go north. Fire an Ember Seed at the small tree on the screen, then fire a second one to hit the switch that creates a bridge across. Continue across and keep going until you find a man trying to build a bridge. Talk to him, then head back. As you're going along, one of the fairies from the Fairies' Forest will stop you and tell you that a animal got lost in their forest. Agree to help them, then go to the forest. Go up, down, and up from where the three fairies are. Once you find Ricky, you'll be returned outside the forest. Ricky will offer to help you whenever you play your flute, which is now renamed Ricky's Flute on your Inventory Screen. Go talk to the man building the bridge again, and he'll ask you to find his three helpers. Head south and east, then hop up to find the first helpers. Hop back down, then go north. Use a cyclone punch (hold A) on the flowers, then hop across. Head north and go up the stairs, then go west and south to talk to the second man. From there, head west, then all the way south. Go inside the cave to get a ring out of the chest, then hop on top of the cave to talk to the third man. You'll be returned to the site of the bridge, where the men will complete it in just a matter of seconds. You can now cross it and head into Symmetry City. __________________ / SYMMETRY CITY / Head into town, and go get some Gale Seeds from the Gale Tree. Cut the shrubs away to reveal two time warp points. Play your Harp of Ages on one of them, then go in the first building you see in the past. Talk to either of the two people on the first floor to find out about the city's plight. Deliver the dumbbell to the guy who seems obsessed with finding a girl in the basement of that building, then head out. Go and talk to the person in the northeast part of the village, then head and talk to the person in the northwest part. He'll give you the broken Tuni Nut that you need to fix by delivering to Patch on the Restoration Wall. Head out of the southwest exit from the village, then go north. Follow the path through the shallow water, then when you see the one bit of deep water, dive and go through to the house of Tokkey, the composer. Talk to him, then play the Tune of Echoes on your harp to help him finish his song. He'll give you Tune of Currents, which allows you to transport anywhere from the past into the present. Head back, then go one screen south and stand on the southwest corner of the screen and play the Tune of Currents. Get the Heart Piece, then go back through the warp left by playing the Tune of Currents. Go south and west one screen, then stand in the southwest corner and again play the Tune of Currents on your harp. Go south, then follow the path until you come to some stairs. Go up them, lift the stone there, and play the Tune of Echoes. Go into the cave, and take the exit on the right. Push the stone, then go back out and go back to the present. Climb the vine, and do exactly as the sign says not to and throw a bomb into the pond. When the fairy asks you what kind of bomb you threw in, tell her you just threw in a regular one, and she'll upgrade your Bomb Bag to hold up to thirty bombs. Go back to the past, and push the vine sprout to the right. Again go to the present, and again climb the vine. Follow the path until you get to a time warp, then play the Tune of Echoes to go back to the past. Go across the water, and go south. Climb up the Restoration Wall by staying in the center part so that you won't have to do any backtracking. Go inside the cave at the top to talk to Patch, who will offer to perform a ceremony to fix the nut. The rules of the "ceremony" are simple: knock all the enemies into a hole. A cart will be going around the outside of the track that is aimed straight for your nut, but if you're standing on the switch, the train will detour past it for one more circuit. The strategy I prefer is to go for the bottom left creature first, then getting the others in there while making sure to stand on the switch as the cart goes by your Tuni Nut. After you get the Tuni Nut repaired, heead out, then drop down to the east to re-enter Symmetry City. Take your fixed Tuni Nut to the central building and place it on the pedastel, then warp back to the present time. Symmetry City is now a much different city than when you first visited it. Go to where the volcano used to be, and enter there to search for your fourth Essence of Time. ______________________________ / LEVEL FOUR--SKULL DUNGEON / 1F B1F ¯¯ ¯¯¯ ### ##### # # M = Mini-Boss ## # ## B# ## B = Dungeon Boss # M## # ### ^ = Entrance ####### ##### # # # ^ Be warned--this dungeon's a toughie. If you don't have a potion on you, you may end up seeing a couple of Game Over screens, so be careful and save often if you're one of those people who wants to beat the game without dying at all. Upon entering, go west and defeat the three enemies in there to open the door. Jump across the lava in the next room, then go through the room with the blocks in it to go out the other exit to the room. Get the compass from the chest, then continue south. In the next room, hop across the lava and push the cube down, left three times, up, right, down, left, up, right, then down into the hole. Collect the key from the chest, then make your way back to the entrance of the dungeon and go east from there. Once you're on the easternmost part of this room, jump across twice, push the block left, then jump up and push the block there right. Go through the locked door. Go west, then hit the switch once with your sword and hop onto the cart. Get the map from the chest, then go back, hit the switch again, and ride the cart. As you're riding, be sure to hit the switch you ride by. In the room where your cart stops, throw the pots out of the way and bank a shot off of the lower wall that hits the moving switch in the other part of this room. When you do, a chest containing a key will appear. Ride the cart north one room. Go through the locked door, then go west. Be careful not to get hurt by the moving spikes there, then go north and equip your feather and Power Bracelet. Pull the lever all the way back, then run like the devil's chasing you through there before the floor disappears. In the next room, you must defeat the four skeletons to go through. I recommend holding A and stabbing them with it that way, as they won't jump when you do that to them. Go west, then north. Match up the colored floor tiles to the colored blocks, then go west again. As soon as you enter this room, STOP. Equip your Roc's Feather and sword, then jump across. Kill the two other enemies in the room, then go back to the right side. Stand in the middle of the path of the two spikes, then jump over the top spike as it comes toward you. Race to the top part of the room, and push the cube there down two spaces. Now do the same thing, but push the cube five spaces to the left, then push it down into the hole. Hop on the cart. From where you get off, go east. Jump onto the moving platform and bank a seed shot off the top wall to hit the switch and make a chest appear. Once you have the key, go west two rooms. Use your key to get to the color-changing tile, and jump across it to change it to blue. Go back, and ride the cart. Equip your seed shooter, and fire Ember Seeds at the skeletons as you ride along. If you don't get them all the first time, you can either wait for them to come close to you and hit them with your sword through the blocks, or ride it again and try to shoot them once more. Whatever you do, go through the door to the west when you're done. Lift the pot to get a fairy (which you're probably needing about now), then carefully jump across the platforms. This is all about timing, and there's nothing I can really do to help you through here if you're having trouble. Go through the south exit, and match up the colored tiles in there to the blocks above them to get a key. Leave, then use the key on the key block to board yet another cart. Go west, and you'll meet the mini-boss of the level. MINI-BOSS STRATEGY: This guy isn't much tougher than anything you've fought before. When he throws his sword into the air, try to run a step ahead of the knight as he runs around the room so that he is hit by his own sword. After you do this three times, his shield will be gone, and he'll try to start charging at you. Get a good distance away from him, then move as he begins his charge at you and hit him with your sword as he runs by. Repeat this four more times, and he'll be defeated, opening the door to the south. Go south and follow the path until you get to a bombable wall, which you should destroy. In the next room, your goal is to step on every tile in the room once while only stepping on adjacent spaces. To do this, go left, up, right three times, down, right, up twice, right twice, down, left, down, right three times, up twice, left, up twice, right, up twice, left five times, down, right three times, down twice, left, up, left four times, up twice, then just follow the trail of blue tiles until you've stepped on them all. After you do this, a chest will appear. It contains a Switch Hook, an item that works similarly to the Hookshot of other Zelda games but instead of pulling you to objects, it makes you and the object it latches onto switch places. It works on some enemies, as well. Leave the room to the west and test out your new Switch Hook on the diamond block. Go north, through the room where you fought the mini-boss, and then up the stairs. Use the switch hook to cross over to the other side of the room. Use the hook to get across the lava, then stand on the switch and use the hook again to put the diamond block on the switch to hold it open. Follow the path until you go downstairs. When you get to a room with a switch in it, use the hook switch to pull the the diamond block down across the lava, then hook onto the pot to get back across. Now go stand right next to the diamond block, and hook onto it again. Go as far left as you can with the hook still reaching the diamond block and hook on, then go stand as close to it as possible from the right side and switch with it again. When you get the diamond onto the switch while you're to the left of it, go south through the exit. Continue on, using your switch hook to continue getting across the lava. In the room that is all red, simply repeat what you did in the second dungeon to defeat the blobs in there and open the door to the west. Jump across the lava there then run through the middle of the spikes to get to another puzzle room. In this room, go down four times, left twice, up, left, down, left twice, up, left, down, left, up, left, down, left twice, up, left, down, left, up three times, right, down, right, up twice, left, up, right, up, left twice, up twice, right three times, down, right, up, all the way right, down three times, left, up twice, left twice, down, left, up, left twice, down, left three times, down four times, all the way right, up, right, up, left, up, left all the way, down twice, right, up, right all the way, down, and left all the way. (*whew!*) Get the key from the chest, then go north to get out of there. Go across the moving platforms, then take the stairs. Use the switch hook to go west, then go into the room with the lever in it and pull it all the way back. Run and jump (it speeds you up just a tiny bit) across the room and continue north. In the next room, pull the lever back again, then use your switch hook to get on the tile where the first pot is. From there, use your switch hook to go from pot to pot in the room. In the next room, go up the stairs and jump across the small bit of lava. Use your power bracelet or switch hook to get the pots on the bottom of the room out of the way, then use your switch hook to pull you up to where the pot on the right side of the room is. From there, push pot above the blue tile up one space. Go down and hook onto the pot to the left, then go all the way right and hook onto the bot to the north. Push the pot beside you to the left onto the switch, then hook onto the pot on the right to get to the chest containing the boss key. Go back they way you came and go back downstairs to reach the boss door... BOSS STRATEGY: Use your sword to defeat one or more of the smaller enemies radiating around the boss, then use your switch hook on him to flip him over. Slash him with your sword as many times as you can, then repeat the process after he gets back up. Hit him enough times, and he'll croak, leaving you a Heart Container and access to your fourth essence of time, the Burning Flame. __________________ / ROLLING RIDGE / NOTE: You can now complete the trading sequence to receive the Noble Sword. See the Trading Sequence section in the Items section for a listing of items and where you trade them... After you leave this dungeon, use a Gale Seed to go back to Lynna City. Go to Impa's house and use the time warp there to go back to the past, then go north and then west. Plant a Gasha Seed in the soil that's under one of the shrubs, then go inside the cave. Talk to the Gorons inside to find out that their elder is trapped under a pile of fallen rocks, and that they need a Bomb Flower to get him out. Leave the cave and play the Tune of Currents. Go back in the cave in the present. Go north, east, and take the lower set of stairs, then talk to the Gorons, go east, and take the stairs to get 50 Rupees. Go back east and take the stairs back up, then use the other set of stairs you passed most recently. Go up onto the ledge and bomb the wall on the eastern side to get to a Heart Piece. Now drop down and go outside. Go down the stairs that are on the left and cross the bridge inside to get 30 more Rupees, if you want them. If you desperately want a ring, go east, then go north to get to the Great Moblin's Palace. You'll fall trying to run through the room. Carefully make your way up the ladder (the left ladder seems to be just a little bit safer), then go the next room. Once you get in the water, jump up onto the platform and climb the ladder to get a ring. Drop back down, and swim out. Use bombs to break through the stones, then climb the ladders out. When you're ready to continue, go east from where you left the cave. You'll come to a screen with a Fairy's Cave (go in and heal if you're lacking hearts), then lift the stone to reveal a warp pad. Play the Tune of Echoes, then head all the way east and go north to find a tree that bears Pegasus Seeds. Collect some, then warp back to the present using the Tune of Currents. Head to the Great Moblin's Palace, then drop a Pegasus Seed and run like mad through the room. Head up the stairs, get out your Power Bracelet, and prepare to fight... BOSS STRATEGY: Defeating the Great Moblin isn't very hard. He and two other Moblins will be throwing bombs at you the whole time, but you only need to focus on those the Great Moblin throws. Pick them up using the Power Bracelet, wait just a few seconds to let the fuse run down, then throw them to either side of the Great Moblin. With luck, the bomb will explode as he's going to pick it up or as he's throwing it back at you. The only things you really have to be careful about in this battle are the small bombs that are being thrown at you constantly and making sure not to hold on to the large bomb too long. After the Great Moblin suffers six bomb blasts, he'll run off, and the Gorons will thank you by giving you a Bomb Flower. Now go back to the past, and take the Bomb Flower to the Gorons inside the cave. They'll unearth the Goron Elder, who you can talk to to get the key to the fifth dungeon, the Crown Key. Go out of the cave, then warp to the present. Go to where the Great Moblin's Palace used to be, and enter the cave there. Drop a Pegasus Seed, then run and jump across the gap. Go west, and do the same there. Go out, then open the door using the Crown Key to enter the fifth level. ______________________________ / LEVEL FIVE--CROWN DUNGEON / 1F B1F ¯¯ ¯¯¯ # ## ### # # M = Mini-Boss # # # # # B = Dungeon Boss ######M # ## # ^ = Entrance # # # # # # ######B ## ^ Go north and defeat the first three enemies you see to open up the door. In the next room, hit the switch so that the red blocks are lowered, then stand on the red tiling and hit the switch again with your switch hook. Go west, then go down the stairs and get a key from the chest there. Go back up, then go south. Hit the switch with your Switch Hook, then go east. In here, stand in the middle of the two lower creatures. Bounce a seed off of the top creature, then as soon as you can, turn to the left or right and fire another seed off. If you do it quickly enough, a chest containing a key will appear. Go back to the room where you saw the first switch, head one room east, and take the stairs down. Hit the switch, stand on the blocks, and hit the switch again to get across. Continue down the next set of stairs and across the moving platforms, and you'll come out in a very dimly lit room. The best recommendation I can give for this is to look and see where the monsters are able to move. Move to lower right part of the platform you're on (the one you can see) and jump to the right. Carefully go along, throwing the occasional Mystery or Scent Seed in front of you (watch and see if the go down holes or have their normal effects). Continue on like this until you get within jumping range of the platform the chest is on, and hop to it. Get the key from it, then get the heck out of there. Again go back to the first room where you saw a switch, and hit it so that the blue blocks are now down. Go two rooms east, two south, and one more east. Get the map out of the chest, then go back west and go through the locked door. Go down the stairs, and pull out your seed shooter. Fire Ember Seeds so they bounce and light all four candles, then continue west. In the next room, step on the switch on the right to see the layout for the statues on the left side of the room. If you don't want to have to go back and forth between the two sides of the room, arrange the statues like this: Y B Y = Yellow Statue Y#R R = Red Statue R B = Blue Statue B # = Shaded floor tile (where chest appears) After you do this, a chest containing the Cane of Somaria will appear. The cane allows you to create a block that will appear directly in front of where you're standing when you use it. You can only place one block on the screen at a time, but luckily, you don't have a Magic Meter to rapidly drain as there was when this item appeared in Link to the Past... Anyways... go back up the stairs, and push the three statues onto three of the switches in the room, then use your brand-spanking-new cane to drop a block onto the one uncovered switch and make a chest containing another small key appear. Go east then north, and drop down to go down the stairs in there. Go through the passage by throwing the pots out of your way, then go down through the next chamber by using the cane to create a small stepping stone for you to jump on. Do the same on the next screen, and climb the ladder. In this room, use your Seed Shooter to hit the switch, then go north. Here, you'll see two blocks that you need to push onto the two colored tiles. The catch is that the two tiles work in conjunction with one another, meaning if you push one block left, the other will move left as well, unless there's something hindering its path. If you want to push one block to the left, then you need to use the Cane of Somaria to create a block to the left of the other tile that you don't want to move. Use this process to get both of the blocks onto the tiles, and you'll get yet another key. As you go back down, make sure that the red tiles are raised. Once you're back on the main floor, go north and east. Use a Pegasus Seed, then jump across the gaps. Collect the hearts from under the pots before you enter the locked door, as you'll be needing them very shortly... MINI-BOSS STRATEGY: Run from the boss as soon as you get in and do what you can to avoid the ball he throws at you. When the ball he threw at you vanishes, looks for another one to fall down from the ceiling. When one falls, simply pick it up with the Power Bracelet and throw it onto him. Repeat the process five or six times until he's defeated. Go north, and lay a block on the switch to make a bridge appear. Get the Compass from the chest, then go down the stairs. Jump across the moving platforms there, then go down the ladder. Take the stairs in the northern part of the room. Go stand on the lowered blue tiles, and hit the switch in the center of the room with your Switch Hook. Stay on the blue tiles and go south, then go through the key block and go west. Hit the switch, then go through the key block there, as well. Go onto the ledge in the southeastern part of the room, then drop down onto the raised red blocks and go north. Go down the stairs in the northwest part of the room, then go through the locked door to the west. You can get some Rupees from the chest if you want, but you should go down the stairs behind the blue blocks to continue. Use the Cane of Somaria to get across. In this room, you'll see eight statues: three blue and yellow, and two red. Each statues moves in conjunction with the other statues of the same color. You need to try to get all eight of the statues to be on the tiles surrounding the blue owl in the room. If you want a direct walkthrough of this puzzle, here it is: push any of the blue statues four spaces right, then push once down. Push a red statue up once, then twice right. Lastly, push the yellow statues down once, left twice, up three times, and left twice. You should, at this point, have seven of the eight tiles covered. Now go down and put a block below the bottom yellow statue, and push the last statue into place. Claim the Boss Key from the chest that appears after you do this. Go back through the level to get to the room where the Boss Door is (where you got the map earlier). Make sure you're stocked up on hearts, then pull out your Cane of Somaria and Sword and head through... BOSS STRATEGY: This boss is quite a bit different from the other bosses you've fought so far. The boss will split up into two or more parts four different times. You have to combine those parts back together by getting them to collide, then hitting the full creature with your sword three times. Be careful though, as the smaller creatures have projectiles they can shoot at you, and the full boss can shoot lightning bolts. # = Block | o = Enemy Part | % = Block from Cane of Somaria -PART ONE: o# ### Here, create the block as shown, then when the creature is one space above the block, start hitting it with % your sword to stop its movement. After it combines, ### slash the bajeezus out of it. #o -PART TWO: # Go for the right part, and stand below where you create # # %#o the Somaria block. Hit the enemy part repeatedly when # # it's to the left of your block, and let the two o#% #o combine. Then create the second block and let the two put themselves together (which shouldn't take too long). Hit the full figure three times again. -PART THREE: Things get even trickier here. Create the first block # at the leftmost marking on my cheesy little map, then o###%% %###o place a block at the space right next to it when the # creature is on top of the block. Now go over and create the third block, and wait for the two to combine. Again defeat the full boss, then get ready for the final layout... -PART FOUR: First things first, I recommend pushing the lone block ### on the right part of the room down, which should make # # # # two creatures on the right come together without you # # # having to do too much dirty work. After they combine, # # # make sure they're on the diagonal string of blocks, # # # and go over and create a block to make an L-shaped o#%# %#o #o array. When the smaller creature is on the end of that area, hit the Somaria block with your sword and it will disappear. Create the second block and wait for them together, then finish the boss off with three sword hits. Collect the Heart Container, and go north to claim your fifth Essence, the Sacred Soil. __________________ / ROLLING RIDGE / You'll talk to the Maku Tree and find out that there's a second Essence to be had in the area. Your conversation will be cut short by a Goron who has come to tell you that there is a new tunnel on the ridge and that it features a host of new games to play. Go east, then go into the entrance on the right. Go through the cave, then when you come out, go east, north, and west. Pull up the stones to reveal a Time Warp pad, and use it to go to the past. Enter the building and give the Goron inside 20 Ember Seeds and Bombs. You can also plant a Gasha Seed one screen to the west (dig to find the soil spot). Play the Tune of Currents to go back to the present, go one screen east, and enter the cave there. Go through it, then go south, east, and north, and go in the cave on the right. Go into the room with the eight Gorons in it, and talk to the blue one in the center. He'll offer you a symbol of brotherhood, but only if you can dance. Agree to listen to how you play, and make sure you have the sound cranked up. Memorize the sounds that signify when you should press the A and B buttons. The object of the game is to repeat the exact same moves with the exact same rhythm that the Goron leader does them. He'll do eight different rhythms, and you must successfully copy at least six of them. This game is all about how much rhythm you've got--there's not much I can do to help make it any easier. If you're having trouble, try playing through a few times and memorizing the rhythms, since they repeat after a few times through. After you complete the challenge, you'll receive the Brother Emblem. You can continue to play the game for 10 Rupees to try to win a variety of other prizes, including Gasha Seeds and Rupees. Go talk to the Goron blocking the door in the room to the south, and he'll move after seeing your Emblem. Go through the cave, and when you get to the fork, go to the route that leads to the bomb game. Continue to just take the stairs, then drop down and get a Gasha Seed from the chest. Leave, go two screens west, and warp back to the past. Claim your prize from the Gasha Tree (it should be grown by now) and go into the cave to where you gave the Goron seeds and bombs earlier. He'll give you a choice of two chests. I don't know if there's a difference between the two chests (I've gotten a ring every time I've tried it so far), though I'll try to find out more about this as soon as I can. Go back to the present and go through the cave again, and when you get to the entrance to the Goron Dancing Game, go west. Cut the shrubs there to uncover a Time Warp, and use it to go back to the past. Go east then south and burn the tree there. Go inside and talk to the man to receive 200 Rupees (yay!). Now go north and enter the cave. Talk to the guy guarding the entrance and he'll let you go by while making a request for an heirloom you could give him. Go up the stairs, and use Pegasus Seeds and your Roc's Feather to get across. When you get to the next set of stairs, use your switch hook to pull yourself across to the flowers and get the 100 Rupees out of the chest. Leave the cave, and use your Switch Hook to pull the vine sprout onto the spot of differently colored dirt. Now play the Tune of Currents and climb up the vine. Enter the Target Carts game room, and shoot all the targets around the course to win the Rock Sirloin. Every time you get at least nine of the targets, you win twenty Rupees, but you must be perfect to get the Sirloin. This game is all about how well you aim. Hold down B and use the arrow keys to aim as you go along, and try to be as accurate as possible, since even one slip-up can make you do it again. After you win the Rock Sirloin, I recommend you continue playing the game, as there are some nice prizes up for grabs: lots of Rupees, Gasha Seeds, and a Boomerang. You can get the Boomerang a different way, however, if you don't find yourself doing very well. When you're done, leave, and pull up the stones next to the entrance. Warp back to the past, and then enter the same place. You'll find a Target Hitting game that's almost exactly like the one in Lynna Village. You can find what everything is worth from the Goron operating the game. You must score at least 100 points to win the Lava Juice. You can continue playing to win other prizes here as well. If you didn't already win the Boomerang from the Target Carts game, you can win one here by scoring at least 400 points. After you have the Lava Juice and Rock Sirloin, go back to the present time and drop down to go back to the Goron Dancing room. Give the Sirloin to the guard that's inside to receive a Goron Vase, then leave and go to the past. Give the vase to the guard that stands there, and you'll receive some Goronade from him. Head back to the present, and go up the stairs beside the guard and go through the cave to get to the Big Bang Game. Talk to the Goron there and give him your Goronade to play the game. This game is fairly easy. Your goal is to dodge the bombs that are falling. The easiest way to do this is use Pegasus Seeds to run faster and run away from the bombs as quickly as you can. After you do this, you'll receive the Old Mermaid Key. Go down and left to get out, then warp back to the past again. Go back up into the cave you came out of and give your Lava Juice to the Goron to get a Letter of Introduction. Go visit the Graceful Goron and show him the letter, then beat his dancing game again to get the Mermaid Key. Leave, then go west and swim under the waterfall. Go through the locked door to begin the sixth dungeon. ______________________________ / LEVEL SIX--MERMAID'S CAVE / NOTE: This dungeon is different from all of the previous ones in that you must switch back and forth between the Past and Present to get everything you need. Defeat the three enemies in here to get a chest containing a Gasha Seed, then continue east. Use your Seed Shooter to fire Ember Seeds at the three candle-like enemies, then get out of their way! After you do this, exit to the north. Go west and swim through the water (being sure to dive under the enemies) to get to a chest that holds the dungoen map. Now go two screens east, and pull out your Seed Shooter. Use Ember Seeds to hit the candles in this order: 1 2 4 3 The room should change, but there's nothing more you can do in it right now. Go back to the entrance, then go north. Go west, and do the same puzzle you've been doing since Level 2 to get a Compass. Head out, then go north until you find three more of the candle-like creatures. Kill them the same way you killed the other ones and take out the two bats to open the door. Jump across the gap and kill the two enemies there to get a small key. Now head west and south, then go through the locked door. Use the Cane of Somaria to put a block on the left switch, then go up to where the pots are in the top left corner and pull up all of them that are touching the wall, then push the last one down onto the other switch. Go north, but be VERY careful not to get grabbed by one of the blue hands in the room. Take the three hands out with your sword first, then bomb the block that divide the room. Go to the north wall, and tap it with your sword until you come to a place where the "clink" sound is different, and bomb it. Now you should leave the dungeon, go outside, and play the Tune of Currents. Re-enter the dungeon from the present. Go north, then kill the snakes or simply run past and go north two more screens. Hit the switch with your Seed Shooter, then go to the upper-right part of the room and hit the switch again to get to the door. Lay a Scent Seeds down to get the snakes to fall into the pit, then get the key out of the chest. Head out, hit the switch again, then go to the lower-left part of the room and hit it to take the west exit. Defeat the hands floating around, then bomb the bottom wall between the two blocks. Use your Switch Hook to pull you across, and again bomb your way through the wall. In this room, jump across and push the cube one space down and two left to get into the red space. Now push it two spaces to the right, then up, left, down, right, up, left, down, and right onto the yellow tile. Last, push it two spaces left, up, right, down, left, and onto the blue tile. Go back north, and go through where you bombed the wall in the past. Here, ride each wheel once, then go one screen north and one west, then drop off the ledge. Ride the wheel again, then go one screen north and drop off. Go down and ride each wheel once again, then repeat and go take the wheel on the right. Get the hearts from under the pots, then go through the locked doors to meet Vire, one of Veran's henchmen. MINI-BOSS STRATEGY: Vire is a boss that can be a little tough to defeat. I recommend staying in the center of the room with your sword charged, and unleashing it whenever Vire swoops across the room. Otherwise, use your sword to deflect the projectiles it throws at you. Nine normal hits (or five charged ones) will cause Vire to split itself into two bats. Once you defeat those, Vire will leave and report to Veran about you (uh-oh...). Go through the door to the east. Take a bomb out of your bag, then throw it at the cracked blocks as soon as it begins to flash. With a little luck, the bomb will blow up at just the right time and destroy the block, allowing you to use your switch hook to get across and get the Mermaid Suit out of the chest. Leave and go back to the entrance. Go one room north, then take the east exit. Go through the water, then go down the stairs and jump across the platforms. When you come back up, you can go through the key block and enter the room with the two levers. Pick one randomly, and hope for the chest to appear. When it does, you can take the boss key and leave the dungeon. Before you go back to the past, however, go to the area of deep water in the cave and dive. Swim through to get a ring out of the chest. In the past, enter and go east. Continue going east until you get to the area of deep water, and dive in. Go through the path until you can come back up, then let yourself be pulled through the currents while dodging the holes. Swim to the northern exit in the room to the west, and kill the two snakes with your sword (make sure it's equipped to A) to get a key. Now go back to the entrance of the dungeon, and go make your way back up to the last room you visited your first visit here (two north, one west, two north from the entrance). Go through the bombed wall, and go around the wheel to get to the water. Under the water, go through the passage on the right and go east. Defeat the two snakes and go through the northern exit. Kill the two snakes in there as well, then swim as fast as you can across the room. Use the Switch Hook to pull each of the blocks onto the six colored tiles at the top, then get the key and head back out. When you're out of the water, go through the locked door, then go through the key block. When the two rotating platforms are both vertical, place a block from the Cane of Somaria on the trigger, then use your Seed Shooter to hit the switch. Go through the boss door and get ready to fight for your sixth Essence... BOSS STRATEGY: Swim out to the middle platform. Hit the creature with your sword whenever it turns its red side towards you. When it turns upside-down, jump in the water and dive under to hit it with your sword some more. You'll have to hit it quite a few times to defeat it, but when you do, get the Heart Container and swim into the next room to get the Bereft Peak. The Maku Tree will let you know that Queen Ambi is away from her palace, and that now is your best chance to go in and save Nayru. Head to the palace, and you'll meet up with Ralph. He'll go in first, suggesting that you go to the hidden entrance that he somehow already knows about... In each of the four corners of the garden, there's a switch that is being supposedly protected by several guards that are patroling the areas around the switches. Simply sneak around behind the guards and use the other lawn decorations to hide from their vision and step on each of the four switches located in the garden, then go to the east part of the garden and go through the path you just opened. When you come out inside the castle, go east, and get the ring from the chest, then go west. Note that if you're spotted by any guards inside the palace, they will not throw you out, but instead attack you. They're easy enough to beat, though, so don't worry if you do get spotted. When you get to Nayru's chamber, Veran will speak from inside of her. To save Nayru, use a Mystery Seed on Nayru to exorcise Veran's shadow form from her. Use the switch hook to pull the shadow out, then nail Veran with your sword. Do this three times to save Veran, then Queen Ambi will return. Despite the fact that she sees Nayru for all of two seconds, she is able to proclaim that Nayru is now a nice person. Anyways, Veran will then seize the body of Ambi, and will begin to wreak even more havoc over Labrynna through Ambi's powers. When you, Ralph, and Nayru are surrounded by the guards, Nayru will use her powers to get you out of there. After your conversation with everyone else, Nayru will teach you the Tune of Ages. Now, you should begin your quest for the fish that contains the Essence that the Maku Tree is detecting. First, however, make sure you have a Magic Potion (if you don't, you can buy one from the witches' shop in Yoll Graveyard), as you'll be needing it to give to another person pretty soon. Head to where Rafton's house would be in the present, then swim one screen west, two south, and one more west. Stand in front of the entrance to the house and play the Tune of Ages. Swim out and go west, then go north onto the dry land and again play your harp. Press B to dive, then go east and use your Switch Hook to get across and surface. Play your harp again, and go two screens west and one south. Stand on the stairs and play your harp once again. Dive under and use your switch hook to cross over and enter Zora Village. _________________ / ZORA VILLAGE / Welcome the underwater village of the Zora race. Head north to King Zora's Palace to go meet the king and-- what, the king fell ill a long time ago and died? Well, this is certainly a problem. Head out and surface, then use the harp to go back in time. Visit the king's palace again, and give him the Magic Potion you got earlier. King Zora will be saved, and will promise you that he'll never forget what you did for him. Now go to the present, and visit King Zora. He'll tell you that you need to clear the filthy water before he can grant you permission to go inside of Jabu-Jabu. He'll give you the Library Key. Head east, then warp to the past. Before going to the library, use your switch hook to cross the gap and visit the Great Fairy. She'll ask you to find some Fairy Powder so she can return to her normal form and be able to use her magic again. Now go over and put the key in the keyhole to enter the Eyeglass Isle Library. Talk to the people inside (how'd they all manage to get in there, anyways?), then go out and go back to the present and enter the library again. Talk to the man in the back to get the Book of Seals. Go back to the past again, and place the book on the pedastal in the back room. Follow the directions it gives you to walk to from each book. Note that if you're having trouble remembering the directions, you can use the Cane of Somaria to tell if there's a space for you to walk on or not. When you get to the man in the center, he will give you the fairy powder. Head back to the Great Fairy and give her the powder, and she will turn back to her normal self and cleanse the lands of the poison that has been infecting it. Head back to Zora Village and go see King Zora in the present. He will allow you to go inside Jabu-Jabu, so leave the palace and go west to enter Jabu-Jabu and continue your search for the seventh essence. ___________________________________ / LEVEL SEVEN--JABU-JABU'S BELLY / 1F 2F 3F ¯¯ ¯¯ ¯¯ ##M# #### #### M = Mini-Boss #### #### ## B = Dungeon Boss ## ###B## ## ^ = Entrance ## #### ## ^ Good grief, this level's annoying. If you remember the Water Temple from Ocarina of Time, then you already have a fairly good understanding of what this level is like. Go west after you enter, then swim around the room and use your Switch Hook to pull the top left diamond down one space above the lower-left statue, then pull the other diamond block to where that one just was to get a key to fall down. Now go north and east and kill the enemies in the room to get the Compass. Head back west and press B to surface while on the yellow tiles. Go west and then north. Push the blocks to go east, then go through the key lock to take the stairs. Follow the path until you're in a room with three switches. You'll be visiting this room quite a bit as you progress through this level, as this is the room that controls the amount of water that is in the dungeon. The red switch (that you should press, by the way) will empty almost all water out, while each of the two blue switches that you can't get to for now will raise the water a level. Go down a floor, then go south, west, and south and drop down to the first floor. Take the east exit, and push the block to get to a chest containing a key. Go east, and place a block from the Cane of Somaria on the switch to hold the door open. Go through the now-open door to the east, and take the stairs. Head two rooms north, then use your Switch Hook to get across the gaps and the spikes in the next room. Head up the stairs and again go north, and head through the locked door to press the switch to raise the water levels back up. Head downstairs, then make your way back to the stairs that brought you up from the bottom floor. Go into the room to the east and defeat the creatures in there to receive a key. Head out, and go north and west, then dive into the waters and go down the stairs. MINI-BOSS STRATEGY: A fairly simple boss. Simply use your Roc's Feather to stay a safe distance away from it, and whack it with your sword whenever it gets close to you. It will take a few hits, but it should croak eventually. Head up the ladder that appears after you beat it and go through the key block to get the Long Hook. Make your way back to the switch room the same way you did the first time you went to it and empty the level of water once again. Take the stairs back down to the second floor, then go south and drop through the hole on the right side of the room. Drop down, and use your Long Hook to pull you across to get a ring from the chest. Head two rooms south, and then pull yourself across to where the diamond block is and pull yourself out using the pot. Pull the diamond block onto one switch and use the Cane of Somaria to put a block on the other to get a key. Now go east, north, and east, and go up the stairs. Make your way to the third floor again, and go into the switch room to step on the first blue switch. Now leave the room and use your Long Hook to pull yourself across the gap, go through the key block in the next room, and go south to press the second blue switch. Head back the way you came, but instead of going back down to the second floor, go south from where the stairs are. Use your hook to pull you across the room and get a key out of the chest. Now head back downstairs. Keep going south until you can't go that way any further, then go east until you can dive down to the first floor. Go two rooms north, and go down the stairs. When you come out, use your Long Hook to kill the three enemies in the room and get the key, then go south. Press B in one of the yellow areas, then take the exit to the west. Use your Long Hook to get to the key in the chest. Now, head back up to the third floor, and make your way up to the room where you pressed the second blue switch not too long ago. Go west, then go through the three locked doors with the three keys you have to get the boss key. Now go back to the entrance and warp to where the room where you fought the mini-boss. Go to the colored tiles, and press B to float up to the second floor. Now just follow the path around until you get to the boss door. BOSS STRATEGY: Oh my. You'd think for such a nasty dungeon there would be an equally nasty boss, wouldn't you? Apparently, the Zelda designers didn't thank so, as this guy is a total piece of cake. Just pull out your Long Hook and wait for him to shoot something at you, then hit him with the Long Hook so that he switches places with you and gets hit by his projectile. The only thing could even REMOTELY give you trouble is when he starts putting out electricity, in which case you should simply not use your hook. Let him get hit seven times, then pick up the Heart Container and your seventh essence, the Rolling Sea. As you leave, Veran will let you know that the Black Tower construction is complete, and show you some more of the chaos she plans to cause in the world. The Maku Tree will then talk to you to let you know that she can't hear the eighth and final essence. (Gee, thanks for the help.) Swim away, and a Zora will give you the Zora Scale, a sign of heroism from their race. Go back to the past, then swim away, leaving the village from the south-east. Swim east under the water until you see another Zora. Show him your Zora Scale, and he'll let you pass into the Sea of Storms. Swim around inside until you see the ship, then move to it and talk to the captain inside. Give him your Zora Scale, and he'll give you the Tokay Eyeball before they depart. You can also get a ring from the cave beneath the water. Head back out of the Sea of Storms and go to Crescent Island. Go to where you see the giant Tokay head with one eyeball sticking out of the ground, and place the eyeball you just received in the other socket. Enter the cave that opens there. Defeat the mummies in the first room, then use your Long Hook and bombs to get through the second room. In the third room, you can use the Cane of Somaria to test the floors, or go left, up, left, up to the block, jump one space to the right, then go right until you get to the stairs. Go through the cavern, then when you get out, surface and go push the statue on the right one space to the left so that the three statues are aligned in a straight line, then go north. Follow the path through that area until you enter the final dungeon, the Ancient Tomb. ______________________________ / LEVEL EIGHT--ANCIENT TOMB / 1F B1F B2F B3F ¯¯ ¯¯¯ ¯¯¯ ¯¯¯ ## #### ## ## #B ## #### ###M## ## M = Mini-Boss ^ #### #### B = Dungeon Boss #### #### ^ = Entrance ###### ## ## Yep, this is the final level of the game, and luckily, it's not as tough as the last level was. Head north, then go to the upper-left corner of the room and push the statue, then bomb the wall where the statue was. Go through the wall, and use some more bombs to get to the chest and then to the locked door. In the next room, pull the diamond block onto the upper-left switch, place a Cane of Somaria block on the lower-left switch, then stand on the lower-right switch and fire an Ember Seed off the wall so that it hits the candle, and go down the stairs that appear. Go north and ride the wheel, then push the lone block in the next room up or down to make a set of stairs appear. Go down them to get a map, then go back up and north to get a key from the chest in there. Head back to where you entered the floor, and go through the key block. Ride the wheel, then go up the steps and then north and west to hit the switch, then go east, south, and west and get the compass from the chest. Go back to the switch and hit it again, and go down the path of red tiles. Go west and bomb the south wall in the room there to get a key from the room. Then go back north and east, and use your Long Hook to pull you across the gap. Keep crossing gaps until you're in one of the wheel rooms. Get on the wheel (it should carry you to the north) and then walk over and step on the switch. Take the north exit and get the key from the skeleton in the room. Go back down and ride the wheel so that you take the exit to the east. Head south and east, then go through the locked door to face a tricky puzzle. Stand on the lowered red tiles, then hit the switch. Walk along the red blocks and then jump to those in the upper-left corner of the room, then go east all the way until you get to the end of the corridor where you can go downstairs. When you're battle ready, head two rooms east... MINI-BOSS STRATEGY: The reaper will move around the room firing magic orbs at you. You need to hit the orbs that are completely round back at him so that they hit him while dodging the other orbs he throws at you. When you hit him with his own magic, he will turn into a bat, which is your cue to run up and hit him with your sword. Keep repeating the process until you defeat him, then exit to the south. Go two rooms west, and use your Long Hook to cross the walls using the diamond block. Continue along the path and use your feather to jump over the spiked enemies in the room with all the blocks. Get the key from the chest in there, then go east and get the Slate from the chest. Drop down from the ledge to the south, then go east to get back to the room where you fought the mini-boss. This time, go south, west, and south. You'll end up in a room with four slots that will hold Slates just like the one you've already got. Place it, then take the exit to the west. Go south, then use your key on the block and go out of the room. Go south, then pull the lever back and cross to the lower-left part of the room to get to a chest containing a second Slate. Go north, then two rooms east. In the room where you see the ice patches, take the north exit. Use Ember Seeds to kill the candles in the ice room, and go out of the door that opens there. Take the stairs down and swim through the tunnel, then kill the three small jellyfish creatures to open the door to the north. Carefully swim through the flowing waters, and take them one screen south and one east, then go down into to the tunnel. Swim to the bottom-right and surface to get a third Slate, then go down and take the left exit from the tunnel. Head west, then south two rooms, and lift up the lower-left statue to reveal a stairway. Push the blocks to the left out of your way and pull yourself over to a chest with the boss key in it, then go back across and go east. Take the stairs, then push the cube all the way down and into the hole. Ride the cart into the next room and just stand next to either of the side doorways until the floor tiles are through attacking, then leave to the south. Go through the block room and press the switch to open up the corridor to the east. Kill the ball and chain knight, then go north and get the fourth and final Slate from the chest. Ride the two carts, then go one room west and one north. Go down the stairs and through the tunnel, then use your bombs, Ember Seeds, and Power Glove to clear the entrance to the boss door. BOSS STRATEGY: This guy attacks you in four different forms, but they're pretty easy to beat once you know the startegy for them. If you need bombs, you can get them from the left corner of the room, while the right corner has some seeds should you need them. -PART ONE: When he throws his hands at you, just hit them back with your sword. After you do this three times, he'll change his strategy around... -PART TWO: He'll begin moving around the room trying to grab you between his hands and crush you. Simply throw bombs between his hands before they close to hit him. Do this four times to see his third phase. -PART THREE: The boss will put up a shield in front of him that can block all of your attacks. What do you do? Hit him from behind. To get rid of his third form, bounce seeds off the wall behind him so that they hit him in the back. After you do this, you'll see his final form. -PART FOUR: Lastly, he'll take out two steel balls. When he throws one at you, run up and use your Power Glove to pull the other one all the way back. When he throws the other ball at you again, release the one you're holding on to and it will hit him. Do this three times to claim a Heart Container and your final Essence, the Falling Star. After you leave, go see the Maku Tree in the present again. She'll give you a Huge Maku Seed to penetrate the evil forces of the Black Tower. However, just when it seems like everything's going to be pink and fluffy and happy again, the evil witch, Twinrova, appears. Time for final preparations for battle. Make sure you have the Noble Sword. If you haven't gotten it already, be sure to look at the Trading Sequence section in the Items part of this guide to look at the process of getting it. Also, it's a really good idea to take along a Magic Potion, which you can take a chance on getting from Maple or buying from the witch's shop in Yoll Graveyard. When you're ready to finish Veran off, head to the Black Tower in the past. Before you can go in, though, you'll meet Ralph, who still seems to be acting quite strangely. Right after he runs off, however, Impa and Nayru will come running up behind you to tell you that Ralph is actually a descendant of Ambi's and that by killing her, he would also kill himself. While I think Ralph is sort of expendable (I'm a horrible person, by the way), your job in the game is to save him from danger while exterminating Veran. When you get to the room where your Maku Seed alters the tower, go through the door that appears. You'll end up in a new area, the Black Tower Turret. _______________________ / BLACK TOWER TURRET / ############### ############### #C #G#E #%# #C # #G#E %# ### ## ### # # ### # # ### ### #B #% F# # # #B# #%# #F ### Letters A-H = Stairs that you should ########### # # # # ### ####### climb, in alphabetical order #A #D %# #%# #A# D#H#% # %# % = Stairs that you do not need to climb ### # # ### #### ##### # # @ = Pots (Fairies underneath) #%# ###%####### #% # % # # # = Wall # # # ###### ###### ^ = Entrance #%# @ @ %# #% %# #######^####### ############### After you make your way through that maze, you'll end up in a room where you will be surrounded by four fireballs. You can solve the puzzle the conventional way (if you got the hint from the owl in the maze) by following the flame that is to Link's back when he enters, or you can go ahead and head up the stairs that area second from the right on the bottom row. Head down the steps, and around to the north, take one final deep breath, and prepare to kick Veran's butt. :D Enter the building to the north to see Ralph already trying to fight the possessed Queen Ambi, but to no avail. Talk to Ralph, then head north to begin the battle. ______________________ / BATTLE WITH VERAN / PART ONE: Battle this part the exact same way you did when you rescued Nayru. Use Mystery Seeds to put Ambi to sleep, use the Long Hook to pull Veran out, and then hit her with your sword. Do this three times, and Ambi will be able to escape, leaving you alone with Veran to continue the battle. PART TWO: Veran will now turn into a fairy, and four Dark Links will appear around the room. She will begin to fly around the room. Just hit her with your sword to hurt her. You can also kill the Dark Links to get a heart and just get them out of the way. After you hit her fifteen to twenty times or so, she'll disappear. Ralph and Nayru will escort you out of the tower, but right when it looks like the credits are about to start rolling, Veran pulls you back up to her chamber to finish the battle. PART THREE: In this part of the battle, Veran has three different forms she can take on: a turtle, a bee, and a spider. The turtle will bounce around the room a few times, then stop and stick her head out. Just run from the turtle until its head appears, then hit it with your sword for all you're worth. The bee will float around the room in a figure-eight pattern, leaving it completely open to easy sword attacks. When it flies off screen, it's fixing to do its needle attack, so be prepared to dodge them when they start coming. Veran will also use some smaller bees to try to protect her, but they're no threat at all. The spider is probably the toughest of the three forms. You must hit the spider with a bomb to make it vulnerable to attack, but it can wrap you up and body slam you as well as simply charging at you to attack. Be careful around this form. After Veran takes enough hits, you'll finally defeat her and restore peace (temporarily) to Labrynna. You'll be reminded of the threat of Twinrova, as well as some other familiar faces that still plan to spread sorrow throughout the world... But for now, enjoy the moment! You've just beaten Zelda: Oracle of Ages. Stick around after the credits to get the password that you can transfer to Oracle of Seasons to finish the quest with. /¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯/ / 4. SECRETS AND EXTRAS / /__________________________________________________________________________/ _____________________ / UNDERGROUND SHOP / Ever noticed the other room of the shop in Lynna City that didn't appear to have an entrance you could get to? Simply go to the past and play the Tune of Currents on the same screen where the shop is in the present, and try to end up inside the gate. Once you do that, you can go inside and go downstairs to view three new items for purchase: a L-2 Ring Box, a Gasha Seed, and a Heart Piece. Be sure to carry some cash when you go, though--the Ring Box and seed are each 300 Rupees and the Heart Piece is a whopping 500. _________________ / ADVANCE SHOP / There is a hidden shop that can be found in the past (next to the Target Practice game) when you play the game on a Game Boy Advance. There will be three items for sale inside: a Gasha Seed and two rings, all being sold for 100 Rupees apiece. One of the rings is the GBA Time Ring, while the other one appears to be random. ____________________ / GAMESHARK CODES / NOTE: All of these codes are untested by me. Use them at your own risk. I'd say I played a fair hand in making this guide possible, don't you think? :D -Capcom/Nintendo -- For producing/developing this game. They provided a lot of help, too, since I wouldn't have much of a game to write a guide for without them... -CJayC -- He runs the site this guide is posted on. This huge site has been up for six years with only him at the helm, and it's the work he put into this site that gave me a reason for writing this guide and getting it to people who need it. -AstroBlue -- I accidentally omitted him from previous versions of this guide, but his FAQ on how to make line-draw ASCII art (http://www.dallasmac.com/faqwarp/line_draw.txt) was what I used to create the Zelda logo at the top of the page. -Anyone who has -- I've received hundreds of e-mails correcting errors, e-mailed me providing new information, or helping me find questions that should be covered in more depth or in the FAQ. While this started out in previous guides as a very small section, I'd have to list well over two or three hundred names to fully credit everyone who's contributed, and I know that if I even attempted this, I'd leave someone deserving out--so if you've e-mailed me at all that's helped me out in writing this guide, I thank you very much. _________________ / CONTACT INFO / E-Mail Address: joyblatt@mylink.net *** READ BEFORE SENDING ME ANY E-MAIL! *** -Please DO read the FAQ before asking me any game-related questions. I've tried to cover the most common questions that I'm asked in it, so it saves you the trouble of waiting for me to reply. -Please DO write all e-mails legibly. I will most likely delete any messages that are not written in English and are easy enough to read. -Please DO understand that I may not have time to respond to every e-mail in my In-Box. I've gotten well over a thousand e-mails asking questions about the game and/or the guide, and I simply don't have the time to answer every question, as much as I'd like to. -Please DO NOT send any e-mails that are irrelevant to this guide or to this game. I'm not currently looking for a girlfriend (or boyfriend o_O), I don't want to talk with you on AOL Instant Messenger, and I don't really care that you named your new pet dog Fluffy. -Please DO NOT send any e-mails that contains criticisms about the guide that are unconstructive. If you send me complaints about anything in this guide without suggestions of ways to improve them, then I will delete your e-mail on sight. I have no patience with people who are rude to me, particularly when it concerns a guide that I am doing as a project with absolutely no profit involved on my end. -Please DO NOT send any e-mails asking about where you can obtain ROMs or emulators so you can play this game or ask me about ways to get around glitches with emulators while playing the game on one. I will not respond to any questions regarding emulation, as I strongly dislike the idea of using emulation to avoid paying for any new games you want. But why the heck would you want to play a portable game on your computer, anyways? ______________ / COPYRIGHT / First of all...
