When you first begin your journey, you will awaken in Marin and Tarin's house in Mabe Village. After talking to Marin and Tarin you will get your shield, and Marin tells you to head south to the beach following the path, where other things may have washed ashore. Once you reach Torombo Shores, you will come across spiked Sea Urchins. They will slide back if you walk into them with your shield in front of you. Just as you locate your sword on the beach, an owl will talk to you and tell you to go north to the Mysterious Woods, but before you go, you should thoroughly explore Mabe Village. There is a Secret Seashell under a bush in the field east of town, and a Piece of Heart in the well to the west.
Mabe Village -
The following is an overview of some of the most important shops and places located in Mabe Village:
Marin and Tarin's House -
Here you receive your shield and begin your journey. You can also occasionally talk to Marin or Tarin here.
Library -
Located here are eight books with tips and tactics, so be sure to read them all. You can check the atlas in the library to find places mentioned in this guide. The book in the lower right corner will tell you no useful information now, but it will play a very important role later.
Trendy Game -
After paying ten rupees you can play this game. The timing is tricky, but once you master it you can pick up rupees, Magic Powder, heart energy, and a shield. Be sure to use one turn and win the Yoshi Doll in the center and trade it to the mother at Quadruplets house.
Quadruplets House -
In the Quadruplets house Pahpal will warn you that he will be lost later, but it will not happen for some time. However, you can trade the Yoshi Doll to his wife and receive the ribbon in exchange.
Madam MeowMeow's House -
She does not play a big part in the game, but BowWow, who is chained up outside, will be very important. Be sure to visit the pooch located in the adjoining shed, who will exchange the ribbon for a can of dog food, and by digging in the floor you will uncover a Secret Seashell.
Town Tool Shop -
Be sure to pick up the shovel here for two hundred rupees, and after you buy it the Bow and bombs will be available to purchase, all of which will be essential to your quest.
Ulrira's House -
When you talk to Old Man Ulrira in his house he is shy and curt, but if you call him in one of the tree-telephone booths (one is a screen west of his home) he will give you informative hints about what to do next. His wife outside does not do much now, but she will play a role later.
Fishing Pond -
For a mere ten rupees you can go fishing here. Be sure to nab the big lunker in the hollow under the bank, because it has a Piece of Heart inside of it.
Dream Shrine -
If you sleep in the bed here, you will warp to another room. By charging into the creatures located here with your Pegasus Boots and your sword, you will work around the room and collect one hundred rupees and the Ocarina.
After exploring Mabe Village, go north to the Mysterious Woods. Here the owl will explain that the Tail Key is located in the woods. This key will allow you to enter the Tail Cave, south of the village. While in the woods, you will encounter a large racoon. If you try to pass onto the next screen he will warp you to another spot in the forest. If you talk to him, he mentions a dust-like powder which he is sensitive to. The powder he is referring to is Magical Powder. To get it, either win it in the Trendy Game, or if you find the mushroom in the forest, take it to the witch and she will turn it into Magical Powder for you. Her hut is located to the west side of the woods. After you get the powder, take it and sprinkle it on the racoon and then go north where the treasure chest with the Tail Key is located. Take this key to the Tail Cave and insert it in the keyhole. Now you can enter Tail Cave.
When you arrive back in the village after completing Tail Cave, two kids will tell you the "terrible" news that BowWow has been captured! Go to Madam MeowMeow's house to learn the details. Madam MeowMeow will tell you that BowWow has been dognapped by the Moblins. Your next goal is to rescue him. Go to the north-east of the Mysterious Woods where you will arrive at a circle of pits in the ground. First collect the Piece of Heart in the center and then go up and to the right. Just beside an owl statue, you will find a cave entrance. Inside you must battle through two rooms of Moblins and then you will face the Moblin Boss. Dodge the arrows he shoots at you and wait for him to charge. When he charges, step out of the way and he will ram into the wall. Having rammed into the wall, he will be stunned for a brief second. While he is stunned is the only time you can hurt him. Run up and hit him as fast as you can with your sword. Just keep repeating this process and after eight hits he will die. After defeating him, go into the next room and rescue BowWow. If you take him back to Madam MeowMeow's house, she will just ask you to take him for a walk, so you cannot give him back yet. Do not worry, though, because he is the key to entering Bottle Grotto. Take BowWow north to Goponga Swamp. Here, BowWow will eat the harmful flowers, allowing you access to Bottle Grotto.
After exiting Bottle Grotto you can return BowWow to Madam MeowMeow. She will even kiss you for being so nice! Now head west into Ukuku Prairie and thoroughly explore it. You should soon come across Richard's Villa. This former prince will ask you to retrieve five Golden Leaves for him. He tells you that if you give him these leaves, he will give you the Slime Key in return. To get these leaves, go north to Kanhalet Castle. Here give Kiki the monkey the bananas that you traded to Sale at Sale's House of Bananas and he and his monkey friends will build you a bridge. Be sure to pick up the stick they leave behind. Go north to where you will find a lone bush. Cut this bush down to reveal a hidden entrance to the castle. One leaf is obtained by destroying the guy in the six pits on the east side of the castle and another by throwing a stone at and then destroying the crow on the west side of the castle. Inside the castle, the third leaf is obtained by destroying all but one of the enemies in the second room of the castle. Be sure to hit the switch that opens the castle gate. In the first room upstairs, plant a bomb in front of the left statue in the sunken portion of the room. Destroying this enemy will give you the fourth leaf. The final leaf is obtained by destroying the ball-and-chain trooper in the room to the east. To enter his room, throw a pot at the door. He is defeated by simply avoiding his chain and hitting him with your sword whenever the opportunity arises. Once you have all five of the leaves, go back and see Richard. Push the box that is beside him to the side, travel through the cave, and you will arrive at Pothole Field. Patiently work your way around Pothole Field, being careful not to fall into any of the pits hidden under the bushes, and then dig in front of the owl statue to receive the Slime Key. Now head north from Richard's Villa and insert the key into the Slime Keyhole. After opening the door, go around to the east and jump across the islands to reach the gate. Now you can enter Key Cavern.
After defeating Key Cavern, you will need to head for the Yarna Desert where you will locate the Angler's Key which will allow you to enter Level 4, Angler's Tunnel. The desert is located in the south-eastern corner of Koholint Island. Before attempting to enter the Yarna Desert, however, first look through the Animal Village. Be sure to take the honeycomb that you got from Tarin and give it to the bear chef in Animal Village in exchange for the pineapple. True to what the animals there say, when you try to enter the Yarna Desert, you will soon find that the walrus is blocking the only way into the desert. The one way that you can get the walrus to move is to have Marin sing to him. Use the teleporter south of the village to get back to Mabe Village much faster. The kids in Mabe Village will tell you that Marin is down by the seashore. You will find her at the very east end of the beach, just below the chest with fifty rupees. After talking to her, she agrees to go to Animal Village with you. If when you get to Mabe Village you are unable to locate Marin or find any reference to her, it is probable that you never traded the stick to Tarin in Ukuku Prairie. Be sure to do this, or you cannot proceed in the game. When you get back to the Animal Village, go up to the walrus and Marin will sing to it and it will roll off into the water. Now you can head into the Yarna Desert. Do not touch the poles with spikes on them or you will be hurt. In the cave in the north of the desert, you will face the Sand Worm. While being sure not to fall into the room below, hit his head with your sword every time you get a chance. Eight hits will toast him. Once he is defeated, you will receive the Angler's Key. You may need to drop to the room below to collect the key if it falls through. In the room below the Sand Worm, plant a bomb against the middle of the north wall. You will find a Piece of Heart inside. Now, take the key north to Tal Tal Heights. The key hole you are looking for will be across the river from the dungeon entrance, which is hidden by a waterfall. After you insert the key into the keyhole, the waterfall will dry up and reveal the dungeon entrance. Next, head north into the Tal Tal Mountain Range. While in the mountain range, be sure to trade the pineapple to Pahpal in return for the hibiscus flower. When you come across the spot where the ground is dry from where the waterfall used to flow, jump down to access Angler's Tunnel.
After completing Angler's Tunnel, be sure to swim west up the river, from the dungeon entrance, where you will find the cave where Manbo, Child of the Sun Fish lives. He will teach you another song for your Ocarina. Also, swim east up to the cave that is located on the same river. While inside this cave, diving near the center will reward you with a Piece of Heart. As you are traveling around after Level 4, you will soon notice a ghost following you. Although this will probably scare you at first, he will tell you that all he wants is to be taken back to his old house by the sea. You will have to do what he wants, because you cannot enter Level 5 until you do. His house is located just to the east of where you talked to Marin by the seashore. Take the ghost to his house and let him look around inside. Soon, he will become overwhelmed with memories and ask you to take him back to his grave. His grave is not located in the main cemetery, but it is the single headstone just to the west of the Witch's Hut, which is just east of the Mysterious Woods. Once you return him to his grave, he will tell you that under one of the jars in his house is a gift for helping him. So go back to his house and look under all the pots. Under one of them, you will find your reward, a Secret Seashell. Now it is time to prepare for your next dungeon. This dungeon is located in the middle of Martha's Bay. You should quickly find it, because it resembles a giant fish head sticking up out of the water. On the west side of the rocks surrounding it, dive underwater. Swim down and under the big rock and come back up to the surface. Now enter Catfish's Maw.
Once you have beaten Catfish's Maw, your next dungeon is a little north-east of it. Here, the owl will tell you to head south, to the southern shrine. This shrine is just to the south-east of where the owl will talk to you. Inside the shrine, if you touch the soldiers standing guard there, they will come to life and start to move. Sometimes, you will have to make them move to proceed. Look carefully, because behind one of the soldiers is hidden a set of stairs that lead to a hidden Secret Seashell. Keep heading west across the shrine and soon you will come across a building. Inside this building you will find the guardian of the Face Key. The only way to hurt him is to hit him with arrows. First, go near him and he will awaken and then quickly hit him with arrows. It only takes twelve hits to defeat him but do not let him touch you or he can quickly do massive damage. After he is defeated, pick up the key that he leaves behind. The mural on the wall in the next room has an interesting inscription, but you will need to light the two torches in the room with Magical Powder because otherwise it is too dark in the room to read it. Once you are done, it is time to travel to your next dungeon. The path to Level 6 is at the same place where the owl told you about the shrines. However, you will need to swim out to the narrow island in the water. Once there, touch the soldier on the left to make him come alive and then enter the stairs behind him. Travel through the cave using your Hook Shot to cross the large pit and then head up the stairs. You will find yourself just to the right of the stairs that lead to Level 6, but first you will need to unlock the dungeon. Head to the right and north where you insert the key into the keyhole. Once the dungeon door is opened, head back to the left, up the stairs, and into Face Shrine.
After you are done with the Face Shrine, your next goal is in the north-east of the island where Eagle's Tower awaits you. But to enter it you will need the Bird Key, and to get the Bird Key you will need the assistance of the Flying Rooster, and to get the Flying Rooster you will need to learn Mamu's song, the song of awakening. First, head south from the entrance to Ukuku Prairie. After passing the telephone booth, you will come across a cluster of pits. This is the entrance to the Signpost Maze. Use the Pegasus Boots and the Roc's Feather to leap the pits and land on the other side. First, read the sign that is right next to the pits that you lept. Then, follow the signs that are in an exact line from the last sign that you read. If you ever mess up it will tell you to return to the beginning of the maze. For some of the signs, you may need to cut down bushes or cross pits to access them. When you finally read the last sign, a set of stairs will appear on the east side of the screen. Head down these stairs where you will find Mamu. Talk to him and agree to pay three hundred rupees to learn the song of awakening, the third song for the ocarina. After you have learned this song, head back to Mabe Village. Once back in Mabe Village, go to the screen north of Marin and Tarin's house. Here you will find a memorial to the Flying Rooster. Stand in front of it and push and it will slide back revealing a set of stairs. In the cave below, you will find the mortal remains of the Flying Rooster. Play the song of awakening in front of him that you have just learned to awaken him. Voila! You now have a rooster following you. If you equip the Power Bracelet and pick him up, he will fly with you hanging underneath. Before heading north, go to the front of Kanhalet Castle where you will find a row of five pits. Using the Flying Rooster is the only way to cross these pits. There is a Secret Seashell in the cave at the end of the pits. Also, if you swim into the castle moat, dive underwater next to these pits and you will locate a Piece of Heart. Now head north into the Tal Tal Mountain Range. Proceed up the long stair that begins in the deep water. Keep heading north until you reach the Hen House. Enter the cave entrance that is just south on the same screen as the Hen House. Once inside, you will need to push some of the stones aside to proceed up. Also, you will need to use the Flying Rooster to cross the chasm. Then proceed to the left, and claim the Bird Key. Once it is acquired it is time to head to Level 7. To get there, return back south the way that you came until you reach the deep water, then turn east. In the first cave that you enter, plant a bomb on the dry square by the wall. This will blow open to reveal a cave that will lead to rupees and a Secret Seashell. Continue heading generally east until you appear at a little hut on top of the mountain range. The dungeon is just to the west of this. Head over and insert the Bird Key into the keyhole and then enter Eagle's Tower.
When you are done with Eagle's Tower, the last dungeon awaits you. However, before you head to Level 8 it is highly advisable to obtain the Level 2 sword. If you do not already have it, get it! To get it, just take twenty Secret Seashells to the Seashell Mansion in Ukuku Prairie. As soon as you are prepared, head back to the Hen House. From there lies the path to Level 8. Head west across the bridges, using the Hook Shot when needed to cross the gaps in the bridges. At the end of the bridges, underneath the bush that you will find there are located the stairs that allow you to proceed. Continue west through this cave where, upon exiting the cave, there are boulders that are tumbling down from above. While dodging them proceed north. Once on the top, by picking up the boulder that is right below the chest that contains fifty rupees, you will reveal a hidden staircase. In the cave below, sprinkle Magical Powder in the torch to awaken a creature that will allow you to carry more bombs. There are two other caves like this one on the island. The one to the west of Martha's Bay will reward you with more arrows and the one in the Mysterious Woods will give you more Magical Powder. As you continue heading west you will come across a cave entrance which must be blown open with a bomb. Inside this cave, you will come across a flamethrower mounted in the wall. Using your Level 2 shield, walk into the flames and they will part around you. Then walk to the west and enter the stairs. When you exit, continue heading west. When you cannot travel any further, you will come across the entrance to the dungeon which resembles a giant turtle head (boy, where did they get the name of Turtle Rock?). Stand in front of it and play the song of awakening. The turtles head will come to life and begin to attack you. Eight hits with the Level 2 sword will destroy him. Once he is gone, you are free to enter Turtle Rock.
Once Turtle Rock is behind you it is time to head for the Egg on Mt. Tamaranch. But before you do so there are two things you need to do. First, you need to use the Magnifying Lens that you got from trading and use it to read the lower right-hand book in the library in Mabe Village. The eight arrow code it tells you is the order you must go through the rooms in the Egg, so be sure to know this code before you enter the Egg. Also you will need to get the boomerang. To obtain it, head south to Torombo Shores. Go south from where the monkey throws coconuts at you. There, find the section of the wall that can be blown open with a bomb. Clear it out and then enter. The guy in here appears after you are done with the trading part of the game. Talk to him and he says that he will trade you an item that he found washed up on the beach in return for what you have in your B button. I would recommend trading him the shovel. Agree to swap items and he will give you the boomerang. If you talk to him again, he will trade back the item that you gave him, if you ever need the item for something. You can get this great item much earlier in the game if you work hard on the trading. Once the boomerang is in your possession, it is time to head to the Egg on Mt. Tamaranch. Once you are in front of the Egg, select Marin's song, the Ballad of the Wind Fish, on your ocarina and then play it. This not only provides you with some of the best music in the game, but it also opens a door in the Egg. After you have defeated the Final Nightmare, head up the stairs that appear before you.

When you first enter Tail Cave, head to the left. In room 6D knock the two enemies off into the pit with your sword. Then claim the small key that appears. In the next room, 6C, you will need to kill all of the enemies (the blobs that come out of the floor) before the torches will stop shooting at you. Then open the chest which contains the compass. Now return to the entrance of the dungeon, 6E, and head up. In this next room, 5E, stand on the button in the floor to expose a chest. This chest contains another small key. Now head right to room 5F. Here, kill all of the enemies and then grab the map out of the chest that appears. Now head two rooms back to the left, to room 5D. From there, head up to room 4D. Destroy the worm-like creature and then open the chest that appears to obtain 20 rupees. Be sure to come back later and plant a bomb in front of the crack on the left wall. This will open up room 4C, where you can obtain a Secret Seashell. Now continue up to room 3D. Here, insert a small key in the locked door at the top of the room and then continue up. In room 2D head to the right, around the blocks in 2E, and then back to 2D. Once back in 2D, push the block that is in front of the door, and the door will open. In the next room, 2C, run into the creatures with your shield and then while they are frozen you can destroy them with your sword. After they are gone, head down the stairs that appear. These stairs will put you in the side-scrolling sequence, 8C - 8B. Use the ladders to get around in the rooms. Jump on the creatures there if you need more heart energy. When you head up the final ladder, you will reappear in room 5B. Head down the hallwaythrough room 4B, all the way to room 3B. In the chest here, grab the Roc's Feather. Going back down 4B, you can jump and grab the heart energy if you need it. Now return to room 4D and head right to room 4E. In this room, open the chest that is guarded by the fuzzy creature in order to obtain another small key. Now head to the top exit on the right side of the room. In room 4F, head right and then up. Once in room 3F, use the Roc's Feather to jump the pit, and then use a small key to unlock the block with a keyhole in it. Now head up the stairs and to the left. In room 3E, open the chest and grab the Nightmare Key. Now head back to room 4E. Once in room 4E, take the lower exit on the right side. In room 4F, open the locked door on the right side with a small key. In room 4G, head up. Once in 3G, you must hit all three enemies and get them to freeze when they all have the same symbol showing. If you can do this when all three display a heart, they will all turn into small hearts. Once they are gone, you can obtain the Fragment of a Stone Slab out of the chest. Put this fragment in a slab to read it. What this message refers to are the enemies in room 2C. Now head back to room 4G. Once there, leap the gap on the right side and then go through the door. In the next room, 4H, you will face Rolling Bones (see strategy below). Once you have defeated him, a teleporter will appear that links this room with the entrance. Now head up to room 3H. At the top of this room open the door with the Nightmare Key and then enter room 2H. Here you will fight Moldorm (see strategy below).
If you fall off the platform while fighting him, you will appear in the side-scrolling room 10B - 10C. If you fall down here, climb up the ladder in 10C and you will reappear in room 3H. Once you have beaten Moldorm, grab the big heart, and head up to room 1H to claim the Full Moon Chello. Level 1 is now complete!
Rolling Bones -
(items needed: Roc's Feather, sword) To beat this weird creature, use the Roc's Feather to jump over the log that he rolls at you, and then use your sword to hit him as many times as you can as he jumps back towards his log. Keep repeating this process, and after eight hits he will be gone.
Moldorm -
(item needed: sword) This nightmare is a giant worm. To beat him, simply hit his tail with your sword five times. As you hit him however, his speed will increase. If you let his speed drop back to normal, you will have to start all over on hitting him. Try not to get knocked off the platform into the room below.

You will enter the dungeon in room 7B, but you can't do anything here yet so head on up to room 6B. Here, light the two torches in the center of the room by sprinkling Magical Powder on them and then head right to room 6C. Kill both enemies that are there and then claim the small key that appears. Open the locked door at the bottom of the room and go down to room 7C. Kill the creature in the room with a bomb, and then get the compass from the chest that will appear. Now head back up and right to room 6D. Strike the crystal switch with your sword and then continue down to room 7D. In room 7D, strike the crystal switch and then get the small key from the chest. Now head right to room 7E. Leap across the gaps and stand on the floor switch, then get the small key from the chest. Now strike the crystal switch and then leap across the gaps and then head up to room 6E. In room 6E, kill the two enemies there with a bomb and then work back around to room 6D and then right to the left side of room 6E in order to get the key that appears when the enemies are defeated. Now head right to 6F and then up to 5F. In room 5F, push the two blocks together that are in the center of the room. This will cause a set of stairs to appear. These stairs lead to side-scrolling stage 9A-9B. Work through this stage and you will reappear in room 4A. From 4A head up to room 3A. Here you will fight Hinox (see strategy below).
From 3A, head right. In 3B leap the pits on the bottom of the screen and then head up to 2B. In 2B, work your way up, avoiding being sucked into one of the pits. You can also get the Fragment of a Stone Slab from the chest if you wish. Once in room 1B, go left. In room 1A, quickly light the two torches with Magical Powder and the two ghosts will leave. As soon as they are gone, a chest will appear that contains the Power Bracelet. Now head right to room 1C. Move the pots and then leap over the pit. Strike the switch, and then head over and grab the small key from the chest. Now, standing on the lowered blocks on the right side of the switch, strike the switch again. Now head to the right, drop off the blocks and on down to room 1E. Now head down to room 2E. In room 2E, first push the blocks out of your way. Then destroy the imprisoned Pols Voice with a bomb or a pot, then kill the bat, and finally the Stalfos Knight. Now you can grab the Nightmare Key from the chest that appears. If you don't do it in exactly this order, the chest will not appear. If you want, at this point, you can get the map. Use the stairs in the corner of 2E in order to get back to room 3B, then head over to 3A, and finally warp back to the entrance. At the entrance, you can open the chest that was behind the pots. Now head up to 6B and then over to 6A. Kill both bats and then proceed up. In 5A claim the map from the chest. Now return the same way you came to get back to room 1E. Head over to room 1F. Destroy the two Pols Voice as well as the blob and then a set of stairs will appear. There is a small fairy under a pot in the bottom row if you need it. The stairs lead to the side-scrolling sequence of 9G-9H. In 9H, the platform will descend when you stand on it. In 9G, however, it will not. First, you must pick up the pot and carry it over and stand on the platform while carrying the pot. This will make the platform descend. Now go up the ladder and you will appear in room 4F. Jump across the pits and enter the door to face the Genie (see strategy below).
Once the Genie is gone, go to the left to room 3E and pick up the Conch Horn. Now you have completed Level 2!
(item needed: sword) To defeat this cyclops simply hit him with your sword eight times. Dodge the bombs that he throws, avoid him when he charges, and he will soon pass on.
(items needed: sword, Power Bracelet) For this Nightmare it is a very good idea to get the Secret Medicine from Crazy Tracy. To defeat him, first dodge the fireballs that he throws at you. Once he goes into his bottle and starts to chase you, hit the bottle with your sword to freeze it, and then pick it up with your Power Bracelet and throw it. Then he will come back out and begin throwing fireballs at you all over again. Repeat this process three times. After the bottle shatters, dodge him when he is spinning around and hit him whenever he stops. Eight hits will turn him into dust.

When you first enter the dungeon in room 8F, the door above you will slam shut. Now as you may find this somewhat rude, the monsters in this game are certainly not known for their social skills. To open the door, throw a pot at it. In the next room (7F) defeat all of the enemies to gain a small key from the chest that appears. Head up the right opening at the top and go all the way up to room 4F. Descent the stairs that are there. In the room below you have a choice of four doors. Enter the top door. Defeat both enemies and the get the small key. Strike the crystal switch and then return to room 2B and go up the stairs. Open the chest next to the stairs to get 50 rupees and then head down to room 6F. Here go to the right. In room 6G open the chest to get 200 rupees. Now head back to room 2B and then go right to 2C. In room 2B there are two other doors. The bottom door will give you two bombs and the left door will give you a floating heart, but I would not recommend going in them until you have the Pegasus Boots. Once in room 2C go up the stairs on the bottom of the room. In the next room (4G) destroy all the blocks and then claim the small key that appears. Now head up to 3G, on up to 2H, and finally up to 1H. Now work your way across to 1G. Here pick up the compass and then plant a bomb in the middle of the left wall. In the next room (1F) destroy all of the enemies and then grab the small key. Now return to 3F. From 3F head left to 3E and defeat all of the enemies to gain another small key. Now head up to room 2E and defeat all the enemies to make a chest appear on the ledge above you. Now head up to room 1E, grab the floating bombs, climb the stairs and head down. Pick up to map from the chest and then continue down and over to return to room 3F. Now head up to room 2F and prepare to fight the Dodongo Snakes (see strategy below).
Defeat the snakes and then go to the right to room 2G. Go around to the right side, push the lower block in and the top one up, and then claim the Pegasus Boots from the chest. Use the Pegasus Boots to destroy the strange objects at the bottom of the screen. Now return to room 2F and warp back to the entrance (8F). At the entrance head right to room 8G. As soon as the circle in the floor is not repelling you, charge at it with the Pegasus Boots and your sword to destroy it. Then claim a small key from the chest. Now return to 8F. If you wish you can now head up to 5F on the left side of the divider and destroy the blob; then go around and destroy the two enemies on the right side to obtain the Fragment of a Stone Slab. Either way, go to 8F and warp to 2F. Now head over and up to room 2H. Plant a bomb in the center of the bottom wall (where the floor tiles point to). In the room below (3H) use the Pegasus Boots and Roc's Feather to jump the big pit and then head up. Jump the next pit and then claim the Nightmare's key from the chest. Now return to room 3F. Open the locked block with a small key and work your way all around the circle and then head down the stairs. This leads to the side-scrolling sequence of 9B-9C. In 9B, ram into the block with the Pegasus Boots to make the block drop. In 9C use the Pegasus Boots and Roc's Feather to leap the gap. You will now reappear in 6C. In room 6C, kill all of the enemies and the door will open. In the next room (6B) kill all of the enemies and pick up the small key. Now open the door at the top and prepare to face Slime Eyes (see strategy below).
Once Slime Eyes is gone, head up to 4B and claim the Sea Lily's Bell. You have now finished Level 3!
(item needed: bombs) To defeat these two creatures, throw bombs in such a way that the creatures eat them. The bombs will explode inside them and hurt them. Three hits each will destroy them.
(items needed: Pegasus Boots, sword) When you first enter his room, you will need to ram into the wall to make him drop from the ceiling. Run up and hit him rapidly with your sword. When he almost appears to split, ram him with the Pegasus Boots. After you ram into him, he will split into two eyes. Now select one eye and concentrate on it. As soon as you hit one, it will fly into the ceiling and try to land on you. Watch its shadow and avoid it when it lands. After three hits, the first eye will die, and then repeat this on the second eye.
Collectables:
You will first begin the dungeon in room 7C. Head up to room 6C and then up the stairs at the top of the screen. Travel across this raised platform over to room 6E, go down the stairs and pick up a Fragment of a Stone Slab that is in the chest. Now go back up the stairs and all the way up to room 3E, where you can get the map from the chest. Now head down to room 4E. Use the Pegasus Boots and the Roc's Feather to leap the pit and then head on over to 4F. Here, plant a bomb next to the cracked block, push the other block aside and then claim a small key from the chest. Now head on up to room 2F. Plant another bomb next to the cracked block and then claim another small key from the chest. Now, head all the way back to room 6C. Kill all the enemies and the door will open. Head right to room 6D and kill all the enemies and then that door will open. Then grab the compass from the chest that is there. Head down to room 7D and get another small key from the chest. Now go back to room 6D and then through the locked door to room 6E. Jump the deep water and then head on up, through room 5E, and on to room 4E. In room 4E, use the Pegasus Boots and Roc's Feather to leap the pits and then head on up to room 3E. Unlock the stone and then head over to room 3D. Destroy the two blobs and then continue down, as you will get the key later. Now, work you way down and around, following the shallow water, until you reach room 5B. Here, head up to 3B and then over to 3C where you can pick up the small key from the chest. Now return to room 3D. Unlock the door and then head up and face Cue Ball (see strategy below).
After Cue Ball is gone, head up to room 1D. Using the Power Bracelet, grab the handle on the right side of the room and pull it back all the way. Now race to the left and head out the door before the blocks close. In the next room (1C) pick up the flippers from the chest. Now head down to room 2C. Learn the pattern the lights follow when you stand on the tiles. The pattern changes so be sure to remember it well. Now head down to room 3C and then head right, swimming over the deep water. Head over to room 3E and go down the stairs. This will take you to the side-scrolling stage 6G-6H. Go over to 6G and pick up the key that fell in the water. Now head back to 3D and swim back across the deep water to 3C. Push the block aside and go on over to room 3B. In room 3B, repeat the patter you learned from room 2C. A twinkle will appear if you are correct. Get them all correct and then go down the stairs that appear. This will lead to the side-scrolling stage 8G-8H. In room 8H, dash under the block with the Pegasus Boots. In the second room however, you will need to dash under the block and then let it rise again. Get close enough that it drops, then quickly climb the ladder, and leap to the top of the block. When the block rises all the way back up, leap over to the platform and then go up to the exit. You will reappear in room 5B. Head down and get the Nightmare Key from the chest. Now return back through the same side-scrolling sequence. Once back in room 3B, go down to 5B and then over to 5C. Swim up to the button and stand on it to open the door. Now head up to room 4C, unlock the block, and go down the stairs. Swim the side-scrolling sequence of 10G-10H and then you will reappear in room 4B. Push the block aside and then unlock the door to the Nightmare's Room. In the next room (3A) go down the stairs and face the Angler Fish (see strategy below).
Once the fish is gone, swim up and climb out of the water. Now head up to room 2A and claim the Surf Harp. Level 4 is done!
(item needed: sword) To defeat this water creature, stay below the center block and hit his abdomen whenever he comes down either side. Eight hits will destroy him.
To defeat this giant fish, simply hit him ten times while you are dodging the small fish, barrels, and him when he charges. The smaller fish can be destroyed with your sword.
Collectables:
You will begin the dungeon in room 8H. Head left to room 8F and then destroy all the enemies. Once all the enemies are gone, the door will open. Now head left to room 8E. Gather the compass from the chest and then head down the stairs. This will put you in the side-scrolling sequence of 8A-8B. Use the Roc's Feather to leap across the platform, jumping before they move to much. Now go up the stairs and you will reappear in room 1C. Shatter all of the crystal formations with your sword and then push the blocks together so that they form a square. Then collect the small key that drops from the ceiling. Now return back to room 8E. Destroy both enemies and then go right to room 8F. Now you can unlock the door at the top of the screen. Go up to room 7F and then left to room 7E. Destroy both enemies and the doors will open. Now go left again to room 7D. Kill both enemies in this room also and then grab the map out of the chest that appears. Now go back to room 7F and then up to 6F. Kill alll three enemies and then go up to room 5F for a battle with Master Stalfos #1 (see strategy below).
Once Master Stalfos #1 is gone, go right to room 5G. The chest in this room used to contain the Hook Shot but Master Stalfos stole it. You will need to defeat him three more times in order to get it back. Now head up to room 4G. Push the center block up and then go left to room 4F. Now return to room 4G, push the center block to the right and then to up to room 3G. Now rether to room 4G and stand on the switch. Once the door is opened, push the center block down and then head right to room 4H. In this room you will face Master Stalfos #2 (see strategy below).
Once Master Stalfos #2 is toast, go back to room 4G. Push the block to the side and then head all the way up to room 2G and then right to room 2F. In room 2F you will need to destroy all of the blobs. One is reached by moving one of the pots and hitting him through the center blocks. Once they are all gone, the door will open and you can go up to room 1F where you will fight Master Stalfos #3 (see strategy below).
Once Master Stalfos #3 is dead, the door to the left will open and you can go into room 1E. The Fragment of a Stone Slab is located in the chest. Once all three enemies are gone the door will reopen. Now return back to room 8F. Destroy all of the enemies again to reopen the door. Now head left into room 8E and then down the stairs. Go back through the side-scrolling sequence 8A-8B the same as before and then you will reapppear in room 1C. Go to the left where you will face Master Stalfos #4 (see strategy below).
Once you have defeated Master Stalfos #4 (the last battle) he will drop the Hook Shot. Pick up the Hook Shot and then return to room 8E. Destroy both enemies (you will find the Hook Shot works very well against these enemies) and then continue right to room 8F. Now go to the top right of room 8F and then over to room 8G. Hook Shot over the pit to get to the chest. Now return to 8F, go up to 7F and then left to 7E. Destroy both enemies to open the doors and then go up to room 6E. From room 6E, go left and then Hook Shot across the gaps. Go through the upper door and then Hook Shot over to the chest. Pick up the small key from the chest and then exit out the lower door. Hook Shot back over the gaps and return to room 6E. Go over to the right side and fire the Hook Shot across the gap in to the retracted bridge. This will extend the bridge. Now head up to room 5E and unlock the block there. Now head left to room 5D where you will face the Grommas (see strategy below).
Once they are toast, head back out the lower door and back down to room 6E. Head down and around to return to room 5G. If at this point you want to read the Stone Slab, head down the stairs. In the side-scrolling sequence 10A-10B, leap the platforms across and then you will reappear in room 3B. Go right to room 3C where you will find the Stone Slab. Now return to room 5G. From room 5G head up to room 4G. Push the block up and then go left into room 4F. Then go up into room 3F. In room 3F, swim out into the center of the deep water and dive there. Under the water you will locate the entrance to the side-scrolling sequence of 10D-10E. Swim through the sequence and then you will reappear in room 2E. Hook Shot over to extend the bridge and then walk over and pick up the Nightmare's Key from the chest. Then return to room 3F. Head down and to the right to room 4G. Push the block to the side and then head up to room 3G. Jump the pit in front of the door and then angle jump over to the single block. Now Hook Shot up to the chest. After opening the chest, head to the right. Now Hook Shot over the gap and then go down and pick up a small key from the chest. Then return to the first chest. Head up and then Hook Shot up to extend this bridge. Go up and gather the rupees from the chest there. Once that is done, play the #2 song on your Ocarina, Mambo's song (you did learn it, right?) in order to return to the dungeon entrance. At the entrance, walk into the teleporter and return to room 5D. Now head to the right out the top door and then over to the stairs. The stairs lead to the side-scrolling sequence of 10G-10H. The heads on the walls in this sequence can be grabbed by the Hook Shot. You will reappear in room 3E. Unlock the block and then go up and Hook Shot across the gap. Now head to the left and then open the door. Go up to room 2D where you will face the Slime Eel (see strategy below).
Once the Slime Eel is dust, head up and retrieve the Wind Marimba. You are now finished with Level 5!
(item needed: sword, bombs) Master Stalfos is not very hard to beat. Just hit him with your sword until he collapses. Once he is down, plant a bomb on him and wait for it to explode and hurt him. Just repeat until he runs away or dies (depending on what time you are fighting him).
There is however a nifty trick that you can use to beat him. Hit him with your sword until he collapses and then equip the bombs and the bow and arrow. Use the explosive arrow trick that is listed in the Miscellaneous section (press A and B at the same time and you will fire explosive arrows). Fire four explosive arrows into him. They must all hit him before he stands up. If you do it right he will explode and drop a small key. These keys will really help you in opening doors and such. However you can only do this the first three times you fight him.
(item needed: Hook Shot) These two giant spiders are fairly easy to defeat. Simply wait until they open their mouths to shoot at you and then hit them in the mouth with your Hook Shot. Be sure to dodge them when they charge towards you. Six hits each will toast them. You can also use the bow and arrow to beat these enemies which will halve the number of hits that it takes to beat them. However it will use up your arrows.
(item needed: Hook Shot) This very strange creature will swing his tail at you from the hole in the center of the room. Dodge his tail, and whenever he sticks his head out and opens up his mouth from the four holes in the room, hit his open mouth with your Hook Shot. This maneuver will drag him out from the hole in the wall, and then hit him as many times as you can before he heads back in. Also, sometimes he will drag out and explode. Eight hits will kill him.
Collectables:
When you first enter the dungeon at room 7D, head to the left into room 7C, on up to room 5C, and then over to 5B. In room 5B, plant a bomb on top of the crystal switch and then run up to the right exit at the top of the screen. As soon as the bomb blows, head up to room 4B. Plant another bomb at the middle of the right wall, where the floor tiles head into the wall. In the next room (room 4C), destroy all the enemies. As soon as they are all gone, a set of stairs will appear. Head down the stairs and you will appear in the side-scrolling sequence 10A-10B. There is no way to destroy the faces, so continue on through the sequence dodging them the best you can, and you will soon reappear in room 7B. Now destroy all of the enemies and the door will open. In order to kill the disappearing enemies, simply plant a bomb on top of them as soon as they vanish. If you got the timing correct, when they once again become visible the bomb will explode and kill them. Once the door is open, go up into room 6B. The pot on the right has a small farie under it and the chest on the left contains the Level 2 Power Bracelet. With this bracelets increased strength, you can now lift the elephant statues at the top of the screen and then go through the door which will return you to room 5B. Once back in room 5B, use the same bomb on the crystal switch as before. However, this time run up to the left entrance at the top. Once the bomb explodes, head up to room 4B. Pick up the pot in the upper-left corner and stand on the switch to open the door. Now head left to room 4A. In room 4A, destroy all three disappearing enemies and then a chest will appear that contains the map. Some of the enemies may be on the other side of the crystal blocks, so you may have to do some inventive bomb throwing in order to defeat them. Then head up to room 3A and go right to room 3B. Collect the Fragment of a Stone Slab out of the chest and then return to room 3A. Now pick up one of the pots and throw it at the door at the top of the screen. Then head up to room 2A. From room 2A, go right to 2B and grab the compass out of the chest. Go up the stairs at the top of the screen, hit the crystal switch, and then continue right. Follow this ledge on around to room 2D. Here use bombs to destroy the disappearing enemies as before, and then pick up the small key that drops from the ceiling. Now return to room 2A. In room 2A, pick up one of the elephant statues and throw it at the door at the top of the screen in order to open the door. In the room above, room 1A, collect the 100 rupees from the chest and then head up the stairs at the top of the screen. You will appear on a small island in the middle of the raft ride. Near you is a chest, open it and you will receive a Secret Seashell. Now return to the dungeon. Once back in room 1A, take a bomb and throw it over the crystal blocks. This will trip the switch. Now take your Power Bracelet and pick up the chess pieces laying on the floor. You will need to throw them in such a way that they both land upright. If one of them doesn't land correctly, you will have to start all over again. Once they are both upright the door will open. Now head down to room 2A, climb the steps on the left side and drop down on the other side. Then continue on down to room 4A. Here, toss a bomb over the crystal blocks and then dash to the right to avoid getting trapped. Now head right to room 4B. If you want to read the Stone Slab, go up the stairs in the upper-right corner. Then travel down the ledge and you will find the Stone Slab at the end. When you are done, go back and return to room 7C. Here, use the same bomb technique to destroy the disappearing enemies and then the door will open. Head up to room 5C. Grab the 50 rupees from the chest and then pick up the elephant statue and continue up. In the next room, pick up 100 rupees from the chest. Now head out the door on the left back in to room 5B. There, hit the crystal switch and then return to room 7D (the entrance). From room 7D, go to the right into room 7F. Here the floor tiles will come up and attack you, so tuck yourself into a corner with your shield equipped and they will shatter when they hit you. Once they are all gone, the door will open. In the room above, room 6F, pick up one of the elephant statues and throw it at the door on the right in order to open it. Now head into room 6G and use your bombs to kill the vanishing enemies. This will open both doors. Once both doors are open, go into the bottom one. Climb the stairs on the left side of the room and then drop off onto the raised crystal blocks. Walk up and then leap over to the other block in front of the stairs. Head up the stairs and then walk up and over, where you can get the 50 rupees out of the chest. Now head through the top door and continue on up the water filled path to room 3G. Now pick up the small key out of the chest. Now return to room 6F, unlock the top door, and then head up to room 5F. Here, plant a bomb at the center of the top wall to open a door. Now head up to room 4F where you will fight Smasher (see strategy below ).
Now go up to room 3F. If you continue up, you will reappear in room 5F and then continue this cycle. To break the cycle, in room 3F lift the left elephant statue and go down the stairs that you will find there. This will take you to the side-scrolling sequence 10D-10E. Use timing on the jumps and you will soon reappear in room 4D. Use your shield to shatter all the tiles that attack you and then pick up the small key that will drop from the ceiling. Now head up, unlock the block, and continue up to room 3D. Here, pick up the elephant statue and throw it at the door on the left in order to open it. In the next room to the left use the same as before to throw the statues until they both stand up in order to open the doors. Once the doors are opened, continue on to the left and head down the stairs. This will put you in the side-scrolling sequence of 10G-10H. Simply use the Pegasus Boots to dash under the falling blocks and you will then reappear in room 3H. You can either try and plant bombs to destroy the three Pols Voice, or you can use the tactic from the Miscellaneous section and play the "Ballad of the Wind Fish" and they will all explode. This will open both doors. Now head up, travel through 2H and into 1H. Grab 200 rupees out of the chest, throw the heads to open the door, and then head back down to room 3H. From here, go down to 4A where you will fight the Dodongo Snakes (see strategy below ).
Once they are defeated, head out the door to the left. Hook Shot over to the block, unlock the second block, and then continue up to room 2G. Pick up one of the pots and throw it at the chest to open it. This will reward you with the Nightmare's Key. Now it is time to head for the Nightmare's Lair. Go back to room 4G and drop off into the water. Travel back down to room 5G, destroy the enemies to open the door, and then head left to room 5F. Now head straight upo to room 3F. Here, lift the left elephant statue as before and head back through the side-scrolling sequence 10D-10E. Once you are back in room 4D, head down to room 5D. Once in room 5D, work your way around the center pit allowing the blobs that appear to be sucked in to the pit, but not falling in yourself. Once all the blobs are gone the doors will open. Now go right to room 5E. Once there, push the very bottom block to the right. Now toss a bomb up over the pit to destroy the disappearing enemy while using the block as a shield against the turret. With the enemy gone, the doors will open. Now leap up over the pit, push that block into the pit, and then run up and into room 4E. In room 4E, if you light the two unlit torches with Magic Powder, the round, fuzzy creatures will turn into small faries. Now head up into room 3E where you will fight the Facade (see strategy below ).
Once he is gone, go up to room 2E where you will obtain the Coral Triangle. Level 6--Face Shrine is behind you!
(item needed: Power Bracelet) This strange creature will throw his ball at you. After he throws it, pick it up before he can get it and then hit him with it. Only four hits and he will be toast.
(item needed: bombs) These snakes are the same as you fought in Level 3. To defeat them, throw bombs in such a way so that the creatures will eat them. The bombs will explode inside them and hurt them. Three hits each will destroy them.
(items needed: sword, bombs) When fighting this enemy, first destroy all the tiles that come at you with your sword. Then, dodging the pits that randomly appear in the floor, plant a bomb on the face on the floor. After the bomb explodes, wait for the face to reappear and then repeat the process. Five bombs will do the trick.

When you first enter the dungeon in room 4B, head to the right. Once in room 4D, destroy both of the enemies that will suck you in and a key will drop from the ceiling. Now head up the right door, up to room 3D, and then on up the stairs into room 8D. Now go up to room 7D. Pick up the orb from the platform and toss it over by the moveable blocks. Now head to the right side and pull the lever back all the way. Then release it, dash over and pick up the orb, and run out between the closing blocks. Once over in room 7C, throw the orb at the pillar to destroy it. Now head up to room 6C and throw the heads until they land correctly. Once they are both upright, pick up the map from the chest that appears. Now head back down to room 7C. Here, use the Pegasus Boots and the Roc's Feather to jump the triple pit on the right side. Head on down to room 9C and strike the crystal switch. Now return back up to room 7C, pick up the orb, and carry it down to room 8C and throw it against the second pillar. Now, pick up the orb and carry it back up to room 7C. Push the block aside and go left into room 7B. Carry it up, jumping the spikes, up into room 6B.Go over and down the left opening, back into room 7B and throw it over the wall. Now return to room 6B, destroy the three creatures, and pick then pick up the compass from the chest that appears. Go back down the right opening into room 7B and drop down the pit there. You will land on top of some raised blocks in room 2B. Walk down to room 3B and then drop off the blocks. Go right to room 3C, down to 4C, and then over and up the stairs at room 3D. Once back in 8D, grab the L2 shield from the chest there. Now walk down and fall through the pit onto the ledge below. Walk up and retrieve a small key out of the chest. Walk back down and drop off the ledge in room 3D and go up the stairs. Now hit the crystal switch while remaining on the blocks. Then head down to room 9D and unlock the block for future use. Now go left to room 9A where you will fight Hinox (see strategy below).
If you want, depending on the number of Secret Seashells you have, in room 9A drop into one of the far left pits. Walk up on the ledge you will land on to find a chest that contains a Secret Seashell. Then drop off the ledge in room 3A in order to get that chest. Whether or not you do that, once Hinox is defeated pick up the small key that drops form the ceiling. Then go up through room 8A and into room 7A. In room 7A, use your shield to protect against the flying tiles. Once they are gone, the door will open. Then head right into room 7B, pick up the orb, and throw it against the third pillar. Now, throw the orb back over the low wall and then go down and push the block into the pit and jump across. Then go around and pick up the orb and then carry it into room 7C. Take it down to room 8C and toss it over the gap in front of you. Then drop down the pit yourself. Once in room 3C, climb the stairs and go up to room 2C. Drop off the ledge onto the raised blocks. Head right, jumping the gap, and staying on the raised blocks. When you reach room 2D, trip the crystal switch. Now head back to room 2C, down to 3C, then down and around finally heading up the stairs in room 3D in order to reappear in room 8D. Be sure not to hit the crystal switch. Now head down to room 9D and climb the stairs on the left side. Go left and up, jumping off the ledge in room 8C. Now pick up the orb and carry it down to room 9C and toss it over the low wall. Now return to room 8C and drop down the right-most pit. Go right, then down and around again, and climb the stairs into room 8D. This time, however, hit the crystal switch and then continue down to room 9D. Go left to room 9C and pick up the orb. Carry the orb into room 9b and toss it upwards over the low part of the wall. Now defeat the three creatures in that room. As soon as they are gone, a chest will appear. However, you cannot get the chest yet. First, go to the left to room 9A, all they way up to 7A, and then right into room 7B. In room 7B, plant a bomb on the left side of the bottom wall, right between the two torches. Go through this hole and down between the two rows of blocks. Plant another bomb at the bottom and then go through this hole and into room 9B. Hook Shot over to the chest. Open the chest to get 20 rupees, then pick up the orb and carry it up to rooom 8B where you can throw it against the fourth and final pillar. Now walk back down to room 9B and drop into the pit. Once in room 4B, go right to room 4D, up to room 3D and up the stairs. Go up into room 7D, pull the lever, and run through the closing blocks. In room 7C, use the Pegasus Boots and the Roc's Feather to jump the pit and then go down to room 9C and trip the crystal switch. Go back to room 8C and drop down the right most pit. Once back in room 3C, head down and sround to room 3D, and then go up the steps. Back in room 8D, hit the crystal switch and go down to room 9D. Then go left to room 9C and head up the steps. You will appear in room 9G. Go up to room 8G and then right into room 8H where you will face the Grim Creeper (see strategy below).
Once the Grim Creeper runs away, go up to room 7H. Here, push the two blocks together to make a chest appear (it helps to kill the fuzzy creatures). Pick up the Nightmare's Key out of the chest. Finally, hit the crystal switch. Now return to room 8G. Go left to room 8F, unlock the door, and then to all the way up to room 6F. Then to right into room 6G. Now, while traveling around the conveyer belt and dodging the beams, throw the horses heads. Once they both land upright, a chest will appear that contains 100 rupees. Now return to room 7F. Keep in mind that if you jump on the enemies in rooms 8F and 7F with the Roc's Feather, they will turn into small hearts. This will help you boost your heart energy before you face the Nightmare. Now in room 7F, climb the stairs. Hook Shot over to the right onto the block and pull yourself over. Now head down to room 8F and then right to room 8G. Here, head up the stairs. Once outside, climb up the ladder where you will face Evil Eagle (see strategy below).
Once the Evil Eagle is gone, climb back down the stairs and reenter the dungeon. Leap off the ledge into the group of blocks and enter the now open door. Once in room 7G, claim the Organ of Evening Calm. You are now done with Level 7--Eagle's Tower.
(item needed: Hook Shot) This is the same cyclops as you fought in Level 2, except you now have more powerful weapons. At this stage in the game, you can use the Hook Shot to hit this guy only three times and he is history.
(item needed: sword) This very strange creature will sic his friends, the bats, on you. All you have to do is kill all six of the bats in one pass and he will run away.
(items needed: Hook Shot, shield) This is another side-scrolling boss stage. Use the Hook Shot to hit the bird whenever you can. When the bird appears at an upper corner and tries to knock you off the tower by flapping his wings, arm your shield and walk into it. The shield will guard against his feathers and if you start close enough to the center of the tower, the bird will leave before you fall off. If you should ever fall off, you will have to start the Nightmare all over again. Six hits with the Hook Shot will do him in.

When you enter the dungeon in room 8D, head up to room 6D. Go right to room 6E. The block with the blinking light on it is very important. Push on it and it will begin to fill in the floor behind it. As it is moving, you can steer it with the control pad. Push the block and steer it to the upper-left corner and then go up to room 5E and then left to room 5D. Plant a bomb about one-third of the way down the lower wall (you can barely see the crack) and then go down to room 6D. There are three blocks to your left. Push the top and bottom ones to the left and then push the middle one either up or down. Now go over and get the map out of the chest. Then go to the right and push on one of the blocks below where you entered. The block will fall into the lava and then you can jump over to the other side. Return to room 7D and destroy the bat creature (you will find the boomerang very helpful here). This will open both doors. Then enter the left door. In room 7C, kill all the snakes and then the upper door will open. Go up to room 6C where you will fight the Hinox (see strategy below).
Once the Hinox is defeated, go left to room 6B. Push the moving block and steer it to fill in all of the hole (you will need to do this often, so learn how). Once the floor is filled in a chest will appear that contains 20 rupees. Then go down to room 7B. The chest you will find there contains 50 rupees. Now go left to room 7A where you will fight Rolling Bones (see strategy below).
Once Rolling Bones is gone, go up to room 6A. Here, defeat the bat creature with the boomerang and then a small key will drop from the ceiling. Now head down to room 8A. The pit in the floor that sucks you in can be destroyed with your sword. Then go up and open the chest to get the compass inside of it. Then return to room 7D. From room 7D go up to room 6D and then right to room 6E. Push on the moving block and steer it back up to the upper-left corner as before. Then go up to room 5E and then left to room 5D. Go down the stairs there and through the side scrolling sequence of 9D-9E. You will reappear in room 8H. Pick up the Fragment of a Stone Slab from the chest and then go up to room 7H where you will fight Smasher (see strategy below).
Once he is gone, you can go up to room 6H is you wish to read the Stone Slab. To open the door in room 6H, pick up the pot and stand on the switch under it. Then go back to room 7H and left to room 7G. Here, fill in all of the floor with the moving block (you did practice, right?). Once the floor is filled in, pick up the small key that will drop from the ceiling. Then continue left to room 7E (the chest in room 7F is a dud). Rooms 8E and 6H are connected by the side scrolling sequence of 9A-9B, but is really not necessary to use it unless you need it. If you are ever in room 7E and the doors shut on you, pick up the pot in the upper-left corner and stand on the switch underneath it. Then the door will open. Now return to room 7D. Go up to room 6D and then right to room 6E. Push the moving block and steer it to the right, directly in front of the ledge in the lower-right corner. Now walk over and into room 6F. Plant a bomb at the middle of the right wall and then travel through the resulting hole into room 6G. Here, strike the crystal switch. If you ever exit the game you will need to come back here and restrike the switch. Now return to room 6F and climb the stairs at the bottom of the screen. Then drop down into room 7F. Head back to the left and return to room 7D. Now go up to room 6D and right to room 6E. Push on the moving block, but this time steer it between the two blocks at the top of the screen. Push the right one into the lava and head up. In room 5E, unlock the block, go right to room 5F, and then go through the locked door. Once in room 5G, go up to room 4G (don't use the stairs now, you will come back to them). In room 4G you will need to kill all the enemies and then the door will open. Then go up to room 3G. Here, kill both enemies. As you fight them, move constantly to avoid falling through the floor. Once they are gone, a key will fall from the ceiling. Then go left to room 3F, but do not fight the Dodongo Snakes yet. Just head on to room 3E. Climb the stairs in the middle of the room and then Hook Shot over to the chest to obtain 20 rupees. Now fall down to the floor and jump to grab all of the items. You can go up to room 1E and take the side scrolling sequence of 9G-9H back to room 5G but there is an easier way. Walk into the lava. You will take some damage, but you will reappear back on the ledge where you entered the room. Now return back to room 3E and unlock the door. However, if you have already used some of your keys in rooms 4F, 4E, or 4D; you may not have a key to open this door. In this case, go back to room 4D and bomb a hole in the middle of the left wall. This will allow you to access to room 4C and you can gather the rest of the keys as normal. Anyway, if you unlock the door in room 3E, head left to room 3C. Here, defeat all of the enemies and the door will open. Go left to room 3B, climb the stairs, and then go right into room 3C. Hook Shot over to the chest where you will gain 50 rupees. Now drop off the ledge and go up the stairs and out of the dungeon. Once outside, pick up the Piece of Heart right above you and then go two screens to the east and reenter the dungeon. You will be in room 3F, just above the Dodongo Snakes. Fight them as before, except from up on top of the ledge (see strategy below).
Once they are gone, a chest will appear that contains a small key. Then go left and drop off the ledge and then return to room 3C. Go down to room 4C. Take your bow and arrow and shoot an arrow at the statue at the top of the screen. Then pick up the small key that will drop from the ceiling. Now head down to room 5C, gather the items, and then return to room 4C. Now head left into room 4B. While dodging the cannon, push the block just to the left of the cannon down and then push the one in front of the chest to the left. Then get the small key out of the chest. Now return to room 4C and then go all the way back around to room 4G. Plant a bomb at the center of the left wall and then go left to room 4F. Jump the pit in the center and unlock the block and then head left into room room 4E. Go through room 4E and into room 4D, climb the stairs, unlock the block, and then go back into room 4E up on top of the ledge. Hook Shot over to the stairs (you will have to aim on either side of the locked block), unlock the block, and then go down the stairs. Go through the side scrolling sequence of 10A-10B and then you will reappear in room 2H. Head down to room 3H where you will fight Blaino (see strategy below).
Once he is dead go up to room 2H. If the blocks are up you will need to strike the crystal switch again in room 6G. Then head up and open the chest to claim the Magic Rod. Now go back down to room 3H and use the telephoner to warp back to the entrance. Then head up to room 7D and kill the bat (the Magic Rod works very well here). Then go left to room 7C and up to room 6C. Here, you may need to fight the Hinox again. Just beat him as before. Now go left into room 6B and fill in the pit with the moving block. Then go up to room 5B and use the Magic Rod to light the two torches. Then pick up a small key from the chest that appears. Now return to room 7D. From room 7D, go up to room 6D and then go right to room 6E. Push the block and steer it to the right, just in front of the ledge in the lower-right side of the screen. Now walk over and climb up the stairs and enter the side scrolling sequence of 10D-10E. In room 10E, you will run into blocks of ice. Use the Magic Rod to quickly get these out of your way. In room 10D, however, it is harder. Jump with the Roc's Feather and at the peak of your jump, shoot the Magic Rod in order to take out the top row of blocks. Now jump up onto the bottom row, up onto the ledge, and then down the ladder. You will reappear in room 3B. Climb down the stairs, unlock the door, and enter room 3A. Here you will battle Cue Ball (see strategy below).
Once Cue Ball is gone, go up to room 2A and use the moving block to fill in all of the floor (you should be good at this by now!). Once the floor is filled in a chest will appear that contains the Nightmare Key. Now return back the way you came. Once you come out of the side scrolling sequence of 10D-10E in room 6E, go down to room 7E and jump off the ledge. Now go left to room 7D, up to room 6D, and then right to room 6E. As before, push the block directly to the right, all the way to the floor tiles on the far right side. Now head right to room 6F. Then enter the stairs into the side scrolling sequence of 10G-10H. In room 10H you will need to clean out some of the bottom and top blocks and then drop from above and take out the block plugging the left hole. Then drop from the top again and land in the hole and go left. In room 10G, climb down the ladder and take out the bottom row of ice blocks. Then fire straight up and remove the vertical row of blocks that are blocking your progress. Then to back up the ladder, jump the gap, jump up the blocks on the left, and then go down the ladder. You will reappear in room 3D. Unlock the door at the top and enter room 2D. Here you will fight Hot Head (see strategy below).
Once Hot Head is dead, go up to room 1D and claim the Thunder Drum. All the dungeons are now complete!
You may not arrive at all of the mini-nightmares in this order, and some of them you may have to fight more than once.
(item needed: Hook Shot; Magic Rod) This cyclops is the same as in Levels 2 and 7. Three hits with the Hook Shot will toast him. However, once you have the Magic Rod, two hits with that will kill him.
(items needed: Roc's Feather, L2 sword; boomerang) This strange creature who rolls his log at you is the same as in Level 1. When he rolls his log at you, jump over it with your Roc's Feather. Then as he jumps back towards his log, hit him with your sword. Four hits with the L2 sword will kill him. A much faster way to defeat him is with the boomerang. Just shoot it at him as soon as you enter the room and one hit will kill him.
(item needed: Power Bracelet) The enemy who throws his ball at you is the same as in Level 6. Whenever he throws his ball at you, pick it up with the Power Bracelet. Then, throw it so that it hits him. A mere four hits will destroy him.
(item needed: bombs) These black worms are the same as in Levels 3 and 6. Three bombs each and they will be gone. Then open the treasure that will appear.
(item needed: L2 sword) This little punching penguin is quite powerful. His jab will knock you out for a few seconds, and he almost always follows it up with his uppercut, which will knock you all the way back to the beginning of the dungeon. Be patient and you will soon beat him. To hurt him, wait until he is winding up for a jab or an uppercut, and then you can hit him with your sword. Be sure to watch carefully for his punch! Four hits and this annoyance will be out of your way. It is possible to beat him with the L1 sword but it is extremely aggravating and nearly impossible. I would highly recommend the L2 sword.
(item needed: L2 sword) This aquatic creature is the same as in Level 4, however this time you will have to avoid the lava that is in the center of his room. Simply hit his abdomen four times and he is sunk.
(item needed: Magic Rod) When you enter his room, stand right in front of the door. When the creature jumps out of the lava, hit him with the Magic Rod as fast as you can. Hit him eight times without letting him return to the lava and his outer shell will fall off. Then hit him a couple more times and he is gone.

This page gives a complete listing of the locations for all the Secret Seashells. They are not all here yet, the rest will be added as soon as I can get to them. In order to get the L2 sword, you will need to gather 20 Secret Seashells. In the game there are more than 20, so when you have gathered all 20 the rest will disappear. Any that are in chests will turn to rupees.
In front of each listing for the Seashells there is a small box. Print out this page and then as you are playing the game, you can check off each Secret Seashell as you get it. That way you won't get confused as to which ones you picked up. They are in the appromixate order that you will get them.
